I have tried bleaching and followed directions on jug but the after smell really bothered me. Even though I washed and dried as per usual after the bleaching, the fabric still stank until it was washed again. My mother didn't like to use bleach on fabrics because she claimed it rotted the fabric, anyone else heard of that?
It can eat though fabric, but there is a new bleach out with fabric gard, I use it as I have all white towels, I have a 6 year old daughter and an 18 month old step son who lives us part time, I find white towels to be the easy to keep clean I only bleach them once a month. The rest of the time I just wash them normaly.
i usually leave them for a few minutes...but i do it everyday...doesn't happen right away...but after a while of everyday soaking it wears it out
you let them soak with bleach? Can't be for too long or that is what happens. I hate using bleach. You have to be so careful of spillage etc... I have ruined a couple of things because I didn't notice the bleach had spilled! :hairpull:
Jem, love your staircase too! Love the arrangement of mirrors!
yup...your mom is right...i use white bar mop towels and dish cloths...and everday i soak them in the sink with some dish soap, hot water and a lil bleach...and after a while the dish cloths start to fall apart...so not only have i heard that...it happens...it will happen to your socks too...i too find that i can smell the bleach after the stuff has been washed and dried...but then again...after i wash my kitchen floors with bleach...i swear i can taste it...YUCK!!!!
I think on a very old episode of the old House & Home show on HGTV, Lynda Reeves recommended white towels, I think this was when the "spa" look was just coming out and white towels were a part of that and she said the easy thing with white was you could easily bleach them to keep them pristine looking.

lol well i didnt try white towels, i wasnt that brave but bought all white face cloths and the make up has done a number on them....darn girls lol...however i normally use tide with bleach but was thinking about trying just my tide and adding in my own bleach and see if that removes the makeup they have all over them......grrr! and i even told them to use the dark face cloths when washing their face from makeup.....but do kids listen.........NO....lol well at least mine dont always

Well, speaking as someone who has kids..and no white towels...it seems to me that white would work because it's really the only colour you can bleach stains out of. So..kids get the towels full of finger paint...get the Javex.
:) Mel
france your bathroom looks fab as i knew it would! and i agree with anyone on here who said white towels and kids just dont cut it lol

jem...just had to tell you i LOVE your stair wall...the colour with mirrors...looks great
to Modern Classic. Modern Classic is a Paint Cafe colour that is one shade lighter than Steamship White. I painted my living/dining room in Modern Classic, my hallway in Steamship. The stair wall in the hall is Blue Slate - Pratt & Lambert.
Modern Classic is not as blue as Pratt & Lambert Nickel, which I have used and previously recommended as an alternative to Steamship.
France: You're bathroom is beautiful -- and that is the exact colour I am looking for. But nickel in my bedroom looks more blue than your bathroom. I think that we need to start our own fandeck of colours that would give us all the paint colours to achieve a look depending on light source.
I love your bathroom. I just love your whole house... :D
it's nickel:D
Is the colour in the picture that you posted nickel or manchester?
nickel is bluer than manchester. your sister is right matching towels was tough. i went with white towels to make it look fresh and i switch around our shower towels depending on laundry days. i can see her point though about white towels and kids. this is our room ...the kids don't wash in this room!:D
similar to Manchester? I seem to recall that they may have been on a chip together. I think my SIL used that in her bathroom and she found it difficult to match towels to. We all insisted she go with white but she thought that white and three little boys didn't mix. I'm not sure if she ever found anything. I'm going to show her this pic and see if I can't tempt her to try the white again.
eeek. I feel so silly. I completely forgot about light affecting the colour. (hence my name on the board -- designchallenge -- actually I meant to make it designchallenged, but I must have forgottent the final d or it got cut off somehow!) But you're right. In the dining room (which is north facing -- it looks really blue. But in my living room (south facing) it is lighter. I just ran downstairs and got the board and brought it to the bedroom. It looks pretty good. It is south facing and there is little sunlight in there. Just one small window that faces a busy street, so the curtains are usually closed. And the overhead and sidetable lamps. Thanks.
I recently painted my south facing bedroom in Nickel. I can tell you it is a very icy light blue in that room. I also tried it in my north facing bathroom and it went very blue (almost like a denim). Just thought I'd let you know that the direction of the light seems to make a major difference with that colour so whatever you use, do test in the room you intend to paint.
Newbiegirl: On the source list you said that the paint was "modern classic" -- is that the colour name or the type of paint (like eggshell). Is it a blue colour?-- I noticed that one of the other posters said it looked like P&L Nickel. I have been thinking of using NIckel in my bedroom, but did a sample on a piece of wallboard and I am not sure about it -- at times it looks like a light icy blue (which I want) and other times it looks too blue. So I'm open to another choice. I have seen so many references on this forum about Paint Cafe paint -- I went on their internet website and can't figure out how to view their colours. The few samples they have on there are numbered (like PC 102) rather than named. But I think I will be going to Montreal this week and I saw that they sell their paint in some Montreal locations, so I may check it out. Anyone else have a suggestion for Paint Cafe colours that are a kind of light icy blue-- I can pick up some paint chips (Do they sell little sample pots)? Thanks. And, by the way, your bathroom looks so fabulous. Very classy. Love it.
Red Heron Essentials is owned by designer Meredith Heron. www.redheron.ca is the website. She has just moved her store, not sure if they are open yet.
The bathroom is AWESOME, absolutely to die for. Is it your bathroom ?
It could be in a magazine or a catalogue. You do great work. A pleasure to look at too. BEAUTIFUYL
I just love your name Stepford Wife, that is something we should all aspire to be, yes indeedy :D
for sharing the info for the bathroom. Even with the frequent juvenile catty remarks I read what remains evident is that there is still an appreciative and receptive audience anxious to view and discuss what RH is up to.

I have been reading all the posts and this one took my eye with the pictures. I do not know what you mean by from redheron essentials, is that a store like Restorationd Hardware?

Thank you for sharing! Personally, I really do not care if it is your bathroom or redheron's client's - ownership is immaterial - it is beautiful! I love those mirrors and sconces! Thank you for the gorgeous inspiration photos.
Newbie what a lovely transformation....I wish I could get my DH to paint our cabinets...he's another one of those "do not paint wood" guys :(
Thanks so much for sharing these pictures. You must be so happy with this transformation...it is truly lovely. I appreciate your source list and wish to be excluded from the "we" reference in Foxxy's post. I will not try to understand the bitterness that remains on this forum. Please ignore this pettiness as many of "us" are here to appreciate, enjoy and share all that is involved with design and decorating, rather than the exchange of barbs and insinuations. I hope you won't hesitate to post the 100% completed pic. I, for one, will be eagerly waiting!
the candle in the vase on the counter. I would have thought the soaps would have gone there so this was a nice change. Looking forward to the finished photos.
I'm so sorry Newbiegirl, I didn't want to give your answer away. I didn't have a clue that it was Redheron's design. The look reminded me of her style. On a positive note, if I connected the photo to Redheron, she does indeed have her own signature style.
I rarely participate on this forum, so I really don't want to be associated to the "WE" group that Foxxy mentioned.

Thanks for posting this beautiful bathroom, what a transformation. I am inspired to paint out the wood on my bathroom vanity to give it this lovely serene look.
Thanks again.
