Bathroom reno: before and after

We just celebrated the two year anniversary of moving to our current home.  We have a five year plan and the first floor is almost done.  Just a kitchen to do.  The bathroom was the first room to be completely done.

Everything was original.  When we removed baseboards, there wasn't even a second coat of paint.  Wild.  There was carpet everywhere, including the bathroom.  It was stylish for that decade, but this house was showing it's age and it was time for a complete make-over.

Just a couple of reno pictures.  I took them all the way through, but the only people who are really interested in those are close friends and ourselves.

after: double sinks = happy wifeafter: double sinks = happy wifeafterafter

My husband built the floating cabinet and put a high gloss paint finish on it.  I had to have double sinks, just for sanity sake.  Lots of lighting makes for easy make-up application (especially at my age).  I love the Ikea Godmorgon medicine cabinet.  The mirrored inside allows a girl to have perfect hair every time.  Yes, the maintenance is a lot more, but it's worth it.  The porcelain tile is white with pale grey striations and then a soft grey grout. The marble and stone backsplash clinched the colour scheme of white and grey with accents of blue/grey, creating a very calming atmosphere.  It's not the biggest bathroom in the world, but it works.

Stay tuned for more............

Well, I've made a few changes since this was posted - towels, shower curtain and the door colour.  I've also added a few more images.  That's the one thing about design - you can always change, add, edit to your heart's content - depending on how your taste's change or are influenced or inspired to try something new and different.  Sorry about the picture quality on the middle photo.  Weird that the flash went off, as I had a lot of lighting on! and it cast a funny colour.

You have done a great job with your bathroom decoration. In my opinion, its not that easy as it seems to decorate a bathroom, however, you have a done an appreciating job.

Have a look at my three new pics.  Things are always changing, but on the whole I prefer a calm spa feeling to my bathrooms.  My favourite look is tone on tone and letting the texture be the design element.  While I appreciate colour on the whole, it's not for me to live in every day.  Not at this stage of my life - lol!   That being said, the lower level bathroom will be quite dramatic with black/grey/beige tile and glass shower doors that are in place now.  It had to be done due to a leak.  We're moving on to my favourite part of a reno - the kitchen!

Great job after effect is appreciable, but personally I feel you could have used some other color, some mix and match, some designs during renovation

What a lovely transition! You should be very proud of it. We are in the midst of a bathroom reno, as well (the second one in about a year) We do all of our own work, too.

Thank you!  The challenge has always been to create a high end look on a budget.  We were doing the "High/Low" for years!  Anything is easy with money.  Now that we've moved to within ten to sixty minutes of major city centres, it's been an absolute dream shopping.  I still go back to my old haunts though, because it's still worth the drive.  We also save majorly on the labour, as we do everything ourselves, right down to the moldings.  At one time when we had our manufacturing shop, we even made our own hardwood floors.

Beautiful job!  Laughing  Nice job on the cabinet - looks store bought.  Thanks for sharing the before and after pictures.  You talked about blue grey colours in the backsplash so towels in that colour would add a bit of colour and really tie everything together.
