I see there is a posting in the Chronicle Hearld today for paint consultants.
Oh if only I didn't have a tin eye for colour. I couldn't colour coordinate my house if I tried. I've painted my kitchen cupboards 3 times already and it still looks like something is missing.

when the moved inthe cabinets had that fake melamine wood doors with white on the cabinets. I painted them a brown. I can't remember which BM paint colour. Lived with it for awhile.
Our place is a small mini home. Nova Scotia is famous for mini homes. Open concept. The livingroom just did not flow into the kitchen area. Saw a beautiful kitchen in a magazine. Black counter white cabinets. Out comes the black melamine paint. Looked good with white cabinets. Still did not flow.
The livingroom has darker colours. For example - if you've seen that wallpaper border at Home Depot that has the books on it, I used it to cover storage boxes instead of buying expensive wicker baskets. If you have a whole shelf it looks like a book case. Lots of burgundy, carmels, greens, black, gold. (Hubby loves golf. Colours go great with his golf crap)
My walls are coco with carmel faux finish. Sofa is a futton (we poor people) green cover black arms. I need to carry some of the colours to the kitchen. I thought of the olive green. Oh well. I paint when the hubby is out of town so i'm sure he'll be in for a shock when he walks in the door. I move the furniture every time he goes golfing.

The site is somewhat new, and I think everyone here has a different idea of how to use it, lol.
What colours have you tried on your cabinets? I have older wooden cabinets that I want to paint, but the first time is I think the hardest because of the sanding, filling, etc. I think it will be tricky because of the raised panel design-can't just use a roller because the doors have both a raised border around the edges AND 2 raised columns running up the middle. I WILL get to it one day. I'm just going for a white that will look similar to my appliances, so it should not be too hard to select a paint colour. Still, I find it a little tough. So far I have Bright White by Martha Stewart in mind.

Ah, one day it will actually figure out what colour coordination is, but that is a subject for the design forum.

You definitely have ambition when it comes to getting the colour right. I'm a bit lazy when it comes to that, but living with my mistakes isn't always easy. In my last place, we hired someone to do some renos (very reasonably priced) and I was at work the day the walls were painted. I came home to find that the chosen peachy pinky colour that I loved at that time ended up being a very pale lavender! What a lesson that was.
I wasn't asking a question but mentioning that if I had an eye for colour I'd love to get a job at Benjamin Moore. Then i could get a staff discount on paint,but then again, if I had an eye for colour I wouldn't have to paint 4 or 5 times to get it right.
When I get pictures of my place that I can post, I will post them on the design side.
