"Best Buy Stores" Return Policy

I have heard that the store Best Buy which is suppose to be owned by Future Shop has a RIP OFF return policy. We recently had one open in our area but i have not made a purchase there. Anyhow, apparently they have a 14 day return policy, if you are not happy you may return your merchandise, however they charge you a restocking fee of 15% and if you spend over 200 dollars they will not give you back your cash, EVEN IF YOU PAID CASH, you must wait for your money to come from head office which will take 7 to 10 days. I stress that i have no experience with this store, and i have not actually checked it out myself so im suggesting that if you are considering making a purchase at Best Buy be sure of thier return policy. If this is the way thier policy works, i certainly wouldnt even consider purchasing from this store.

Its an email virus thing going around (again). It is somewhat reflective of their US policy, but the Canadian policy is entirely different. The email sometimes contains a link to their return policy on their website, but note that you are being directed to BestBuy.com, which is the US site. For Canadian info go to BestBuy.ca instead. Some big ticket items do have restocking fees, as do some special order items - fairly typical of many retailers. But in general their return policy is fair and comparable to other major retailers in Canada, and I have always found their service to be very good (much better than Future Shop!). I was once in Future Shop and a guy was trying to return a computer because every time he turned it on smoke came out of the CPU. The FS guy wouldn't return it because - wait for it - "Smoke is supposed to come out of this computer"!!! I much prefer Best Buy (and their non-commission sales and service people) to Future Shop. And yes, they are owned by the same company.

oh my gosh, smoke is suppose to come out of the computer, now that is stupid of all stupids.....:biglol:

i didnt get the email, a woman from work was telling dh, perhaps she did.....its good to hear that they are not all that bad. As for Future Shop, i do get sick of them always trying to shove those dam warranties down your throat.

Arizona, if someone buys a tv for the purpose of watching a football game deserves to pay a restocking fee, that is just nuts!!!!

OMG, THAT is hilarious :biglol:
I hope the customer told the saleperson it must be very much like the smoke that was being blown up his behind. Future Shop sales people operate on a commission basis so that's why they are so agressive and will fight to keep their money regardless of the customers happiness.

I understand why they do this, it's to discourage people from buying big screen tv's before Superbowl Sunday for example and then returning them the day after the game. It happens quite a lot from what I was told by a Future Shop manager. How is the store supposed to sell that returned tv when it has been used? Who is going to want to pay full price for it? The mark up on these electronic things isn't as good as it used to be so why should the store be left holding the bag so to speak?
Laptops and cameras are another thing people buy for special occasions and then want to return them after the event.

Not sure about the over $200 in cash part, but I've returned things at best buy before and they've never charged me a restocking fee. The Source, on the other hand, did.
