Hello

i have a very small and narrow bathroom with black and white ceramic tile flooring and black and white ceramic tile tub surround. the bathroom needs an update and i am at a loss as to what to do. the floor space measures 3 ft wide by 9.5 ft long. the walls right now are wallpapered with white background and small green leaves which i do not like. i am not oppssed to dark walls but i am at a loss as to what color scheme to use? should i go with all white walls and black accesorries or dark walls and light accessories. can anyone offer some help. i have attached a couple pics...the sink is on the left as you go in the door, a built in cabinet on the right..tub/shower on right at other end.
thanks for any help

i think dark walls are a total matter of opinon...
I personally would say go for it paint them black.
do you have a tub or shower in that room...

I love the black and the wainscotting.....

dark does not necessariily make a room smaller in my opion.....sometimes you have to step outside and break the so called rules.

You can't go wrong with a black and white bathroom. Just get rid of the bars, they seem to distract the eye upward. Keep the walls white, Colouring them black will make that space seem like a cavern and the space will feel opressive.
Use a clear plastic shower curtain, rather than opaque to help further open up the space. I'd go for the minimal look, simple fixtures, clear plastic or plexi towel bars, austerity can serve a good purpose in such a small place. Often less is More. :)

My last bathroom was a nice green everything was matching in this bathroom it was nice, but a bathroom come dirty very fast and the nice green wasnt so nice after two years he turned with a little bit of yellow.
When you are doing your make up, green isnt a nice colour for the face.
But I like green it is fresh and they are a lot of nice green these day.

It dawned on me that I didn't do the black bottom so here it goes. This would allow wallpaper, colour, or white on the walls.

About greens...my bathroom right now is a very nice apple green and although it's a really nice colour it's not as nice when looking in the mirror. I notice it's taking more blush these days to get those rosy cheeks going and I think it's the paint.

I'd put a colour on the walls, and stick to black and white with accessories as in these photos. It's a small space, so I'd try to keep display areas on reserve for a few carefully selected accents. I might go with a white shower curtain similar to the one shown. If you made one yourself, it might be an idea to attach a band of black along the bottom to carry the same black that trims the walls along the floor in that area. .

My mother had a black and white toilet and it was very nice, its looked clean all the time.
I would take off the king od wooden thing under the toilet and put the toilet all white.
The accessories in stainless stell, a white rug, black looked dirty all the time, a white shower curtain, so all black and white.
I think that a colour doenst fit with that kind of bathroom who is classic.
Your lucky to have black and white tiles.

i think a black and white bathroom is timeless and to me still has a neutral feel, many colors will go well in there,...........lucky for you! :) I love the idea of red or apple green as accent or paint colors....good mock ups and I too think i would remove the bars....good luck!

amalways, I wouldn't do wallpaper in that bathroom only because you don't seem to have any windows in there, unless you're only using the tub....also, I would keep it black and white with red accessories....it will be a classic.

I really like the idea of wainscotting. For paint either all white, all black or apple green. I have always had a black and white powder room. Black walls and I have never tired of it.

A room done in black and white is a true classic and always will be.
The space is small and a dark color on the walls may make you feel too enclosed. I would consider painting the walls white, framing out the mirror in black or a silver leaf, remove the bars as they are competing with the closet doors as well as the tiles. Too many varied textures in this small space. Change out the hardware and ligthing fixtures to either an ALL black or silver/brushed nickel. Added color can be achieved with your accessories and I would tend to be a bit minimal in here again, dealing with the varied textures. By painting the walls white it will allow for future changes in your room.

Wow, I really like the wainscotting/black walls mock up. I think the prison bars have to go, they seem to really block the light to that area.

Lovely chandelier too. Such good ideas!

This really interests me since I'm in the process of doing white and black floors and tiles in my bathroom so I did some mockups.

One colour that a paint store type and I were talking about is a medium warm grey with a touch of pink/red in it just to keep skin tones nice. I couldn't get a good mock up going but these might give you some ideas or a fresh look to start from.

I took the jail thing away and added a light in a few.

I am picturing some really graphic...big....
nothing really modern but maybe something like an updated black and white damask or something....
grrr I have seen something recently that would be perfect...but where....

I just remembered...designer superstar challenge last year ...someone used black and white wall paper...

here is the link

may not be the best view but gives you an idea....

maybe do a wainscotting in nice creamy white...and add silver, glass and stainless accessories....much like these...

would be elegant

oh and I think I would remove the prison bars...I think it would open up the room.

if you go with wainscotting in white...paint the vanity in a high gloss black!

You could really go with any colour, I have a black and white tiled bathroom too and right now its white but I am thinking of painting it out either coral or torquise... I attached a pic so you can see what it looks like done in all white.

I personaly kinda like it, I think if you paint all the wood work out black it could make for a neat detail. Just make sure its a high gloss black.

how about that wooden piece that looks like prison bars should i take that out? i can easily remove it but i didnt know whenther to just paint it or remove it.

Well your in luck black and white are totaly in, you could do a big graphic black and white print wallpaper with it and then pick your fav colour to do the accents. You could do a new mirror with a big black fram and paint the vanity out black as well. new lighting would really help to update it as well, you could do a brushed nickel finish on all the fixtures and then carry that over to the lighting and the knobs for the doors ect..
