Hi Everyone,
What a great forum, I am so glad to have found this!
We have recently purchased our first home and are planning to repaint the whole house. I just wanted some advice as looking for paint colours is a lot more daunting than I ever expected!
The living room dining room is large, high ceilings and a fair number of windows. We were thinking of going with a lighter neutral there as we thought with all that wall, a darker color will be overwhelming. I was thinking about BM Inukshuk, but am wondering if that will give a cold feeling?
The family room, nook, and white kitchen are kind of one long room, with lots of windows and a fireplace (white mantel) on the end. I was thinking of BM Rocky Road for that, as it could keep the area warm and cozy. We were also thinking of cabot trail for an accent wall perhaps around the fireplace.
How does this sound? I keep doubting myself and changing my mind, and the problem is we don't have time to test the paints on the wall b/c possession dates don't leave us a whole lot of time to get the painting done, so we need to be ready to go as soon as we get the keys. I don't want too strong of undertones (if that's possible?), just warm neutrals that match :)
Also, we were thinking of going with Natura paint, but were wondering if it has as good of coverage as Aura? Any experiences?
I would appreciate your feedback very much - have a great day!!

I have found that Natural Linen has a gray undertone and is not very warm at all. It is not what I would call a clean colour. I do not know Rocky Road, so perhaps it will work for you.
Thanks for the link
Any thoughts on a colour for the exterior of my cottage ?? It's a small cottage and want to stay away from Taupes, or Greens (currently it's an army green). Would you paint both the stucco and wood and the railings all one colour??
To give you a further idea of the surroundings, the cottage on one side of us is painted a dark brown and the other a light blue/ grey.
I don't know where you are located, but if you are anywhere near the Beach in Toronto, Nabor's paints on Queen East has a great program. You can "rent a quart". Essentially big testers. $5 gets you a quart to take home and try. I believe you can use up to 1/4 of it. Bring them back in a couple of days. You go on file for those colours and now you get $2.50 off any gallon of that colour that you buy in the future. Yeah!
That's funny - I've been debating similar colours! I really like Rocky Road, but am concerned that Inukshuk is too light. What about Natural Linen with Rocky Road? Natural Linen seems warmer...can anybody say if those two colours go well together?

You won't really know what colours will work best in your new house till you've lived in it for a while and you see how much sunlight the house gets and how it effects the colours that are on the walls now. Our master bedroom is grey, but it can range from a concrete grey to a slate blue depending on the time of day and the amount of sunlight.
And to make things even more complicated, the direction the light is coming from has an effect on colour as well. A colour can look completely different in a north-facing room vs. a south-facing room.
The best thing to do is pick up sample pots of the colours you're considering for the house and painting yourself some big colour chips. Then stick them on the walls and see what they look like in the morning, afternoon, and evening. Move them around to different walls in the rooms too -- colour can vary from one wall to the other because of shadows.
I painted my whole main floor Inukshuk on the advice of an interior decorator, with an accent wall in Cabot Trail. It is a nice color, but is on the cool side of the spectrum. I myself would like something warmer, but repainting will have to wait.
