really really good primer! You can find it at HD or Rona.
Best to sand first to roughen up the surface then prime and paint. Spray paint would be ideal. I have painted brass in the past and this works well
I'm also interested in this......What is Zinsser primer???
If you just want to paint them you need to get a good primer (like Zinsser). The issue is really the lacquer coating that is probably on the brass makes it almost impossible for regular paint to stick. Even with Zinsser (which says you don't have to sand) I'd scuff sand the lacquer a bit, prime, and then paint with whatever you like. You might want to get the primer and the paint in spray form for a job like that.
