Hello,
We have a nook in our kitchen that measures about 60" (L) x 12" (D) and we are planning on installing some shelving in there for additional storage. However, we are having problems finding something we like. We would prefer to get shelves that are 60" long and about 7" deep.
Ideally, we would like to install something that looks built-in with no exposed mounting hardware. We looked into floating shelves, but we couldn't find any that were the right size - most were only 48" long. We also looked into shelf clips, but all the ones we found would still be clearly visible when mounted.
Does anyone know of any products that will fit what we are looking for? Or are there any other solutions that will help us achieve the look that we are looking for?
Thanks,
RT

I would say for sure you could build them yourselves. Then you get exactly what you need.
My hubby and FIL did up some built-in's for our basement (to house my hubbys DVD collection) and it only took them a couple house. It looks fantatastic, cost us about $100 and its exactly what we wanted!
Check out Ikea's website or store and do a search for LACK.They are floating shelves that are various lengths and colours. They slip over the metal posts that you mount into a stud. I have one that is about 72 inches long and about 10 inches deep.
Something you may want to consider is that shelves that long won't hold a lot of weight without that middle support. If you want them to look floating you may be better to make them yourself. There are instructions on the web, but basically you need to sink a metal rod into your studs and then into the board/shelf so there is proper support. That way you can get wood cut to size.
The other option would be to buy the shorter lengths and butt them together (at least that way you don' t have to be quite as precise with your tools to get them mounted as it's pretty much done for you). You could hide the joint by attaching a length of trim along the full front of both pieces to make it look like one piece. there are even iron on trims you can get if you don't want to use wood.
