bulletin board surface??

Has anyone made a bulletin board for push pins? What did you use for the surface for the push pins? I'm looking for an inexpensive solution, I"m thinking ceiling tiles but I don't know if it'll hold the pins well.

I glued two pieces of cork together using craft glue. I found that made it thick enough for the push pins or staples.

I ended up picking a 2x8 sheet of galvanized metal from home depot, I have 5' left, oh well. I also picked up a single ceiling tile from Home building Centre, I think it was 2x4. You can buy a single tile there, as opposed to a whole package of 10 at Home Depot. I'm in the process of building and finishing off the bulletin board, I'll post photos once it's done.

I just made a 4' X 6' bulletin board for work. I bought the cork tiles (12 inch $2.00 per tile) at a new place called the Cork House it is in Oakville. I used a water based adhesive and stuck it on a piece of board (the lightest I could find) from Home Depot. This place is amazing. Hope this helps.

I think I'm going to put some foam behind the cork. I'm not sure yet.. but yea I think Home Depot has some sheet metal. Let me know what you end up doing :)

That's what I thought, whenever I see cork in the shows, it looks too thin for a push pin. I was thinking about galvanized metal for the magnetic part :) .. wonder where I'd get that.

Micheals carries rolls of cork. However, the cork isn't very thick and the push pins which usually have a longer head go through it. I made a bulletin board for my daugthers room with it. For your metal part what about galvinized metal?

Cork's thin isn't it? It comes on rolls, I have to look around. I want a magnetic surface as well for the bulletin board, but stainless steel isn't magnetic (my fridge isnt) I'm hoping to find some type of tin/sheet metal as well. Where are you getting yours?

I haven't made one but will be soon, for the new office (doing half bulletin board, half stainless steel (magnetic) for behind the desks). I'm just going to get a sheet of cork.. not sure yet where I can get it, but I'm sure Michael's carries it. Can't be that expensive I don't think.. at least I hope not!
