I tried my own improvised (SIMPLE) recipe and it wasn't so bad. Actually...it was Yummy. But then again I was really hungry!
I agree Karen there are lots of ingredients in their recipes I just looked up the Dal Makhini and half of the things in ther I have never heard of and would never be able to buy themin this small town. The chicken recipe didn't seem to bad.
my parents actually live off one of the side streets of Lil India..Gerrard St. area...a friend of mine when i was in elementary school her parents owned one of the restaurants there...and i used to go there for lunch alot...i love the sweets...some are a lil toooooo sweet...but still delish
I've tried to make indian food and it never quite works. Unless I use one of the jars from the supermarket, lol. I leave my indian food eating for restaurants. I give up after trying for years. Too many ingredients and for some reason it just doesn't worth the effort vs the finished product.
Thanks...DH and I will have to try it out...I'm pretty picky but I'll take your word for it and get back to you on what I think. Any particular item you would recommend? By the way...have you been to The Host or Lahore Tikka House...LTH is my favourite...It is Pakistani food.
Princess we happen to eat Indian cuisine at least twice a week and we find this restaurant to be the best in our area. On Friday's and Saturday's they have a really nice buffet for $12.95

I was just looking on the website for the food network and there was a recipe on there too. You might want to check it out.
These recipes are making me hungry. They look great...hopefully they taste even better. By the way...Has anyone been to a good Indian restaurant...if so...which one?

Wow...Almonds...I would never have guessed that! I'll try it and see. I'm guessing you don't know any for the Dal Mahni.
Loblaw's have a great butter chicken frozen entree.
Or try this recipe
Butter Chicken Recipe
2 to 3 tablespoons of butter
1 onion
¼ teaspoon of cinnamon
2 teaspoons of crushed garlic
2 teaspoons of crushed ginger
½ teaspoon of ground turmeric
1 to 2 teaspoons of chilli powder
1 tablespoon of coriander
1lb of skinless, boneless chicken thighs or breasts
¼ to ½ cup ground almonds
8 oz can of whole peeled tomatoes with juice
1 tablespoon of tomato paste
½ cup of unsweetened yoghurt
Trim and cut the chicken into small cubes, cover and put aside. Slice the onions into thin wedges. Heat a large saucepan or frying pan and melt 2 to 3 tablespoons of butter until it is frothy. Add the onions and the cinnamon to the pan and fry lightly. When the onions are soft stir in the crushed garlic and ginger. Then add the turmeric, chilli and coriander, and sauté over a medium heat. Add the cubed chicken and sauté stirring constantly until the chicken has turned white. Pour in the ground almonds, tomatoes and tomato paste. Mix thoroughly. Cover and simmer for 20 to 30 minutes. Add the yoghurt and heat through. Serve on rice with a salad and Indian bread if desired.
