I bought a large box of butterfly cookies on sale, and since then I have seen them everywhere for Easter. What is the tradition of these cookies, where do they originate from, and are there any desserts I can make from them, as I have way too many and the kids aren't finding them sweet enough!
Anyone have any ideas?

My local bakery bakes them year round. They are also sometimes called elephant ears.

They are french, they are called Palmiers -- they're made from puff pastry and sugar.
You will find them in all the bakeries in Paris.
Dawn, I'm not sure where those cookies started but I have seen them with other Greek pastries. Does anyone else know the origin of these delicious cookies.
I have seen them with the one side dipped in chocolate and let to set up I lnow I would eat hem then but I will eat anything dipped in chocolate.
My kids will eat anything with colourful sprinkles on them. If you have a favourite cookie icing recipe, pipe a thick line around the cookes near the edges and add sprinkles before the icing sets. The kids may enjoy helping with that. You don't need a decorator bag and tip-just put icing in a baggie, seal it, snip a corner of the baggie, and squeeze. You could just use coloured icing if you wanted.
If you have white or milk chocolate in the house, you could also melt some of that in a baggie and snip the corner, but make just a small opening. Have all the cookies together on wax paper and drizzle the chocolate randomly all over the cookies.
