Buying Counter Top Without Installation

I would like to buy a piece of custom sized granite, etc. countertop. I don't need installation, since I just want to drop it on top of an existing island. However, all the stores that I've visited only sell at an installed price.

Is there a place that I can go and simply have them make a piece of countertop to my specifications?

There's a place in Oakville called The Surface Group.  They've installed a kitchen countertop for me and they're pretty good.   Maybe they'll be able to assist you.

We recently bought a granite remnant from a local granite store for our laundry room. We gave them the template, they cut and polished the slab for us, and we picked it up and installed it ourselves. So yes, you should definitely be able to do your own installation and pay for the slab, cutting, and polishing only.

Try a granite fabricator and not a big box store. Some fabricators have remmnants left over from other jobs so depending on the size that you need they could finish the edges for you and you wouldn't have to buy a whole slab. You did not say where you are located so I can't be of any help there. Google granite fabricators in your region and ask them if they have part slabs----then go and look. Hope ths helps!
