I'm planning to dig up my calla lily bulb so it doesn't die over the winter.
Does anyone know what I should do with it after I dig it up?? Should I plant it in a container in the house, or leave it unplanted in a cool, dark place?? Would the garage be a suitable place to keep it?? Or the cold room??

i have calla lilies and just keep them in the garage, unplanted, over winter. i usually bury them in a bucket with some wood shavings/chips. if you don't have those i don't think you would need to do anything...just put them in the garage. happy gardening!
Cannas must be dug and stored in a cool dry spot.I have a shelf in my basement that I just spread them out on and leave them till spring.
would the same apply to cannas??

Don't sweat it if you don't get them divided before winter. You can do it in spring ,even if they have started to grow again.I do this all the time and I pot some up for plant sales, which bloom right in the pots, depending when the sale is.I have never had mine fail to bloom in 14 years of having the same rizomes.Hope this helps.
Thanks, Molly :-) Hopefully, I'll get around to taking care of all my garden stuff this weekend. I still need to divide my irises -- I hope it's not too late!!
Dig it up ,clean the soil off ,and put it in an onion bag or pantyhose and hang on a nail from the rafters of a cool basement or garage or anywhere that will not get down to freezing.Just watch that they are not anywhere where rodents can get at them. Also they have to be in a dry place or they will mold.
