Jeep you are so clever, as I hadn't even thought of the wind factor! I'm sure glad you mentioned it though, so I will know to take that into consideration when I roll it out there and try it out. The rug is only 4x7', and I think it would be pretty easy to string in some of the lead drapery weight chain sold at the fabric store, but I might best anchor it under something heavy. So far I only have a black metal table with glass. I have my eye on some new black resin chairs, but I'm waiting to see if they go on sale again this year.
Love the amaryllis! I"ve always wanted to try growing one, but I don't do well with plants that can't handle tough love gardening.
I did manage to get out and prune back my roses yesterday. I never seem to get out there to do that soon enough, so this year I'm early! Good thing, as new growth was abundant. It was hard to cut a lot of that off and throw it away, but my FIL told me to do so in order to encourage new canes to grow from the bottom.
Dawn I like the idea of a outdoor carpet as we have the exposed stone on our patio and it is rough on the bare feet but I have no way of keeping from blowing away.
This is when I hate Calgary. Even though our winters are normally mild compared to a lot of places, we can't even think of gardening for a few more months yet. How many sleeps until May 24?
I think this is the most snow we've had this year and it's still coming down. Pretty but enough already.
omg....DBD...you put me in hysterics with that one!....LOL
yea i'm about ready for spring...i'm tired of my yellow car looking white!
Here's my amaryllis half way blooming
oops.......where are the pics.......let's try again
I'm itching to get out there and get busy too! I keep missing the few hours of sunshine we've had, and I find it's been a little too cold for me to get an early start on clean-up. Soon!
Another thing I want to try out is this outdoor rug I bought on sale over winter from Canadian Tire. My FIL rebuilt the rotting deck I had off the kitchen, and the floor surface was painted in a non-slip deck paint that is kind of rough when I step out in bare feet. This outdoor 'rug' is kinda like a tarp with a bit of a plastic feel to it, but it will surely feel a lot better underfoot. Should be pretty easy to keep clean too! I got the black/grey checked one.
Gardening, bulbs? Already? Not here with this freezing icy snow. :biglol: We didn't get nearly as much snow this year as last year, spring is still a far way off.
I planted bulbs for the first time in my garden, and I can't wait to see what the outcome will be. Hopefully the squirrels haven't eaten them all up, with no snow to hide them
We still have at least two months of winter...and I too am counting the weeks.
I am fed up with the windows all closed up, I wake up with a headache every morning probably because of no air flow and my skin is so dry, even though I moisturize and lather every day. blah blah blah :D
OH eat your hearts out...Here in Calgary gardening is right up there on the list of things to do. You can see by my picture how my pots are at the ready, the green watering can is in position and with one good blast of the leaf blower I should be able to figure out where the ground is.

the gardening section can be pretty queit this time of the year..........however, i too am getting really ansy for spring....not even just the gardening but to get the heck out of this house....ecspecially with this horrible weather we are having. :hairpull: no bulb would be peek its head through all this snow

I can't wait either!! We have a lot of snow right now but I am already re-designing our backyard. This year I plan to put in a new stone wall and stone steps since our yard is on two levels. We have a lot of privacy except on one side of our house. Unfortunately this is the side we use the most due to its southwestern location.
I am looking for a small tree or large bush that I can plant for privacy that is easy to grow and will grow quickly. We have a lot of very tall old maple trees on our property so even though we get sun there is a lot of shade as well.
Any ideas are greatly appreciated.
Oh yes, I also live 30 minutes north of Quebec city.
Gardening has started here we have ben out and started to get the beds ready and the bulbs are up. Crocus's are up and should be blooming soon tulips and daffadils are showing and I hope the deer leave them alone until we get to see them first. DH has trimmed a few shrubs just to shape them. Panseys are flowering out and looking good.
