China/Porcelain

Have any of you ever tried to trace China? I had a set of China given to me by my grandmother - it's at least from the 30's or 40's. I've had a heck of a time trying to find out anything about it. It's gold plated (not just the trim, all of it), with the "lovers" (man with mandolin playing to woman in flowing gown) as the centre picture. On the back it says "Gloria Fine Porcelain Bayreuth West Germany". I've tried just about every China and porcelain dealer I can find, but nothing comes up. Does anyone have an idea of where I might try? Thanks so much.

Hi! Spoke to an aquaintance in the china business. Has actually seen the pattern you have if her memory serves her right it is called "love story" Bayreuth is the manufacturer. It was more available in the U.S. at Hudson's. Anyhow, she recommends contacting a company in. North Carolina called REPLACEMENTS all I could get is 1-800-737-5223. She said they are very reputable and they (her store) deals with them often. Let me know.

Hey there, yes, I tried that site and it's not there, either. I have an appointment this week with an antique store dealer. I emailed him a few weeks back and he called me and left a message for me on Wednesday that he wants to see the set. He thinks it's from the late 30's or early 40's and says the set is unavailable - discontinued in the 70's which I understand makes it more valueable. I'm not a china collector but I really love that this set is all gold (the face of the dishes, etc)... so I just wanted to know whether I should be cautious about how it's handled, etc.

Thanks for the tip.
