Chinese Lantern

(or Physalis alkekengi)

I bought a cute pot of this Chinese Lantern plant/bush just before Halloween. I plan on keeping it in the container as I have heard that it loves to spread in the garden.

We just trimmed the skeletonized lanterns off, and I was wondering if the red berry could be used to propagate by seed. What kind of luck would I have with that?

Let the berries dry naturally in the sun and plant the seeds in another pot. You have nothing to lose. The lanterns are gorgeous in fall for display. Cut the stems and pick of the leaves off, then place in a container with no water. They last forever. They also look nice wound in a vine wreath on the door for fall.
