My Christmas Cakes are in the oven so it is the start of baking now. The house smells so good last night I set the fruit in the rum and brandy so it smelled yummy this morning. I don't do a lot of baking but have a few that are must haves and will get them done this week.

Isn't that the problem when you start out early and get all proud that you beat the rusth ? Now I went out & saw my favourite treats. From Harry & David.

This place in USA - they don't deliver to Canada but I always find some of their packed goods at Winners. So here I go picking up:

Chocolate covered cashews for a friend
Moose Munch for another
Chocolate truffles
Raspberry chocolates
Chocolate covered blueberries.
Chocolate macadamia nuts etc...

I have finished two containers already !!!

The joys of being early. Now watch, I will rush out in Dec. to get more & will not be able to find them !!

This is the 4th year that three friends and I got together to do Christmas baking. We get together at one of our houses, each of us makes two things, and then we split everything evenly between us. We just about have it down to a science now -- today we even had enough time to eat pizza for lunch and play Rock Band while the last couple of things cooled :)

Unfortunately, hubby has gotten into one of the containers of cookies and there's a lot less in it now that there was when I got home  No way are they going to last till Christmas -- or at this rate, tomorrow!!

i dont normally do alot of baking at xmas.(suzi homemaker im not) My girlfriend would come over with her daughter and along myself and our three daughters we would do a craft and baking day with the kids. Then life got crazy and the girls got older and we stopped doing this day. However, tonight i bought some stuff and the girls made some tree ornaments and they really had fun doing it and now they want to bake, so i guess i need to get some recipes out and see what they would like to do. BTW, i love xmas cake, my girlfriend use to make it and always brought us over some.MMMMMM

I was always afraid to try they looked so hard to make but when MIL got to old to do it I gave it a try and found them not difficult at all. I set the fruit the night before and then the nest day it only take a short time to mix it up and then in the oven I just took them out and the house smell unbelievable. Now I let them sit and drizzle the rum and brandy over them and then in 2-3 weeks I put the almond paste and iced them. I am late making them this year time just got away on me.

My MIL finished her Christmas cakes in October...right after Thanksgiving. Marks the beginning of the Christmas season, doesn't it....and they have always been a real treat at our home. I have never made them myself....I guess I should start :)
