CIL paint

I've decided I don't like CIL paint & will likely discourage my clients from getting it.

I find extremely unwashable. Anyone else have any experience with this paint?

I have found the Pittsburgh Paints Manor Hall eggshell to be the most washable paint. Now have used it a couple times. Their colors are alot better now.

There's nothing wrong with expressing an opinion about a product on this board. That's why we're all here, right -- to get inspiration and to share decorating ideas and experiences. Sometimes, a product gets rave reviews; sometimes, not so good reviews.

Why not let someone know about a bad experience with a certain product?? If I can save that person time and money and aggravation by telling them to avoid a certain paint or whatever, I will.

.....the opinion that Paula gave us about the paint brand, is what this forum is all about. We come on here for honest, frank opinions about home ideas and products. I would fully understand being upset if CIL paints was a family owned company and hearing it being chastised was something personal, but other than that, ?????????!!!!!!!!

When a paint brand needs to be treated with politically correct paint brushes, things have gone a bit far.

publicly chastising the "brand" - which is, no doubt, very sensitive and probably reading this forum at this moment with a tear in its eye and a catch in its throat - what is the consensus on publicly chastising gentle forum members?

Paula, sharing your experience is appreciated by others. We don't all want to "learn by doing". As humans, we can learn vicariously!

I certainly understand your point and I apologise if I've offended you. But I must respond to your comments. Yes, it was a judgmental comment, but having used the product first hand, I feel well entitled to make a judgment. This board is for sharing our decorating experiences be they positive or negative. I wanted to see what others thought and if I was the only one who experienced this. I am not at all new to painting so I do know what I'm doing as far as surface preparation.

I agree with jalan as well. It is a big deal to have to repaint. She stated it very well. I too usually use BM, and have never had this problem. If I have to do extra prep before painting with CIL to achieve the same results with BM, that can't be good, can it?

I knew that. Brava to you for being forthright and humourous.

It is also manufactured by CIL, aka ICI, SO...
Ralph Lauren is to ICI, as Chico is to Foxxy.

Unfortunately, all I was trying to wipe up were a couple of finger prints that got on the wall when hanging a picture. All I used was water. :(

Sorry! :(

I had my entire house repainted this spring - with CIL paint!

Paula, I have not noticed the problem you mention, yet. I wonder if whatever it was you were wiping up was something particularly hard to clean, or if you were using a "too strong" cleaning product? I guess I am just hoping you are incorrect: I have messy children to clean up after!

I only used CIL paint once, and it was terrible -- loved the colours, but when I removed the tape after painting the stripes, the paint peeled right off with it. I had to go around the entire room and touch up practically every stripe. I wasn't impressed.

I've used Sico, Behr, and BM paint, and have been equally satisfied with all the them.

How do you like Para? I've never used it and haven't really heard either way about its quality.

Just went & checked the paint can. It's the CIL Dulux, premium acrylic in an eggshell finish.

I have it my bedroom, office & guest room. I've had to wash small marks from a couple of walls, and I did it quite gently, but if the light shines on it you can really see where I washed. Looks bad :(

I have their fan deck too - love the colours, but I don't think I'd be able to recommend it. At least not based on my experience. It's funny, because on the can they say its "very washable". Hrumph!

I have it in my kitchen bath & master bedroom...& love it:( Which one do you have? Is it their premiere quality? Which finish? Funny we just received their fan deck in the designer bags at the seminar...many were saying how much they like it...NOW I on the other hand will never recommend Martha Stewart's paint to anyone...what a nightmare to wipe from my experience...where do you have the CIL?
