City inspector

I am so frustrated. We have had our back yard filled, spread top soil, and hydro seeded. I came home yesterday to a note from the city inspector saying that our downspout drainage doesn't pass inspection. The thing that really annoys me is that we did exactly what our contractor told us. Originally he had it set up how the city is now saying it has to be and they made him take it out. This is so incredibly frustrating. What are the chances of the City inspector buying the house behind yours?????? So frustrating. Now we may have to dig up all the pipes, dig a 5x5 ft hole, fill it with rocks, dig the pipes in, and fill. Not to mention that my grass will be ruined. I was so pleased with the progress we have been making. Now we are going backwards.

Our contractor is going to try and resolve the issue for us. He thinks that it is probably jsut a misunderstanding between the two inspectors. He knows what we want to see done and is trying to make it happen. We will have to see how it goes.

You want your city inspector to be tough on the contractors but sometimes they take it too far. A lot of it is how they interpret the rules. Perhaps if you went to the city and talked nicely to them they would reconsider. They are the ones who made you change the correct version.

If that fails, are there any formal complaints you can lodge since they are the ones who changed their minds? Can they show you the rules in writing. Maybe there is someone who can advocate on your behalf.
