colors for island, cabinets and backsplash - kitchen

joannecorkum's picture

We are giving our kitchen a "facelift". We are having a bigger island built with a continuous top and more cabinets facing outward.  Also the cabinets over the gas cooktop are going to house a built-in range vent and the middle two doors will be slighly stepped out... I painted the island black to see if i would like it.....but don't think I do.  I am going to replace the counter tops with a laminate - Madura Gold - and wondered about island color.  Should I have it stained a darkish wood....cherry, walnut....or paint it a coffe color or some other shade from the laminate. Want to keep the cabinetry color - BM Pearl Harbour - but want to change the backsplash....what color?  Ceramic or tin.....perhaps I could paint it a coffee color? ThanksImage: kitchenImage: kitchen

Hi, Joanne: Exciting to be doing a facelift for your kitchen! Yours reminds me of this traditional country kitchen that Cameron drew inspiration from here:

In that one the island is the same colour as the cabinets (though I believe it's more creamy rather than yellow) but has a different countertop material.

If you're having an island built, take a look at this video featuring Lynda Reeves and Suzanne Dimma. They talk about kitchen trends and make some interesting notes about island designs:
