A colour to compliment Straw Hat?

I have BM Straw Hat in my front foyer, and much of the main level. I would like to break it up a bit with an accent wall in my casual living room. Something bold, but fairly neutral. I am a bit partial to BM colours. Any suggestions? Thanks a bunch!

Thanks so much! Your suggestions have been a big help. I'm off to grab my Designer Classics book right now. Funny you should mention Night Train - I just finished painting my bedroom BM Cabot Trail (love it!) and added accents (pillows, accessories, candles) very close in colour to Night Train. It looks great.

Thanks again for your suggestions. Decisions, decisions....

Hi,

I have a lot of suggestions for you to look at. All would look great, it's just a matter of what direction you want to go. First, if you want to puch everything up with a bolder colour try Autumn leaf(CC-92), Red Point Sand(CC-128), or Frontenac Brick (CC-182) (I can't comment on the Hot Apple Spice, because I don't have that sample). Another great colour is Maple Syrup (CC-420) This would tie in nicely with your oak cabinets, yet be a nice caramely colour behind your chocolate brown furniture. Lastly, two colours that are decidedly cool and less intese and are very "in" right now, are Night Train (CC-720) and Piedmont Gray (CC-690). Flagstone is also a good choice, but make sure that you check in your light at different times of day and with your fabric. It has a tendency to look more grey than brown.

I hope this helps! :)

Thanks so much for offering to point me in the right direction, Inglewood!

Sorry, I should have mentioned existing furniture and accents ...duh. My sofa, loveseat and chair are currently a light cream/ off-white colour and desperately need to be re-upholstered - I was thinking about fabrics in the chocolate brown family because I really like how it looks with straw hat.

Accents tables have glass tops and black iron bases. Accessories in room are all ready to be replaced or reworked into a new colour scheme. The carpet is also a very light cream colour - fairly neutral.

There is an oak mantle top and stair railing visible from the living room which I'm also considering painting. Adjacent kitchen has oak cabinets and walls are painted BM's herbes de provence (a nice green).

I've been told that perhaps I should wait until I choose a the fabric for the furniture before I try to choose a paint colour. I know it would be easier to match paint to fabric than the other way around, but I thought having a definate accent colour for the walls might help point me in the right direction re. fabrics.

Thanks Muranogirl for your red suggestion - I'm going to check it out! I like the idea of red for an accent even though I was originally thinking of something more neutral - eg. in the brown family (BM flagstone?).

Thanks again!

Im not sure how bold you want to be but we had straw hat in our last home and accented with hot apple spice. A really nice red.
