Another WOW.........I think the carpet puts everything together so nicely. Another job well done, Smoodgie

It's really coming together Smoodgie. I like the glamour chest a lot and bet when the stars are up you'll have some nice shiny things going on. I can tell you my SIL would absolutely approve of the carpet (she has it too) and it does look really good with a grey sofa (what she has it with).

way the reflection of the rug looks in the glamour chest. I totally thought you'd go in a different direction with the room. So far so good.

I think the table in between the chairs is too small and gets lost, but maybe after the room is all done I'll feeli different.

I wanna see the sofa!!!!!!!!!!

So, I've got the living room partially furnished. I'm still waiting for the sofa, I'm picking up another glamour chest tomorrow or Friday, I need to look for a coffee table, and I need to decide on window coverings. Oh, I've also got some mirrored stars to hang on the short wall, and I have a good idea of a piece of artwork for the long wall.

So, here's what I've got so far -- I suspect people will either love it or hate it, Personally, I love it!! I think the carpet adds fun and informality to the room. I already had the two armchairs and the small table between them. The glamour chest will move down the wall a bit, and the lamp in the corner will go. Oh, that reminds me -- I need to find some lighting too.

DesignFan, I like your ideas. But with three dogs (two of them black) that like to sleep on the sofa, white won't work :( I've ordered a sofa in a smoke gray dog-friendly fabric :) For sure I've got glass and silver going into the room :)

Born2, I'll ask my hubby to post instructions on how he installed the wainscoting.

RGirl, you have a good memory!! One of the blue accessories has made its way into the living room. Not sure if the rest will.... depends on how the room comes together and what feels right.....

So here are two pics -- one without the new area rug and one with it :D

pre red wall in your family room you had many pretty blu accessories over your fireplace. Will you be using those?

I absolutely love the look of your room. The rich blue with the white looks amazing - I love the wainscotting. I know you said it was easy, but was it really?? I would like to get my hubby to do something like that for me - so exactly how easy was it?? Can't wait to see the final pictures.

Okay Smoodgie, I'll play along...even if you do have it all figured out already. ;)

For some reason, with your colour scheme & wainscotting, I picture some white slipcovered sofas with maybe an upholstered patterened chair (smaller print) that picks up your fantastic blue colour. Then, I picture either dark wood or black accent tables. For accent/accessory pieces I'm imagining glass, silvers and black.

You are going to show us pictures of the fully furnished room aren't you? PLEEEASE?

Great job Smoodgie!! I am sooo glad you went with what YOU like!!!!!

Sorry I didn't reply sooner, I was away for the weekend.

It actually took 3 weeks to get the room done. I painted 2 coats of gray on the ceiling then 3 coats of blue (due to a stupid thing I did -- otherwise, 2 coats would have been sufficient). Then my hubby installed the wainscoting, which took a lot less time than it took to paint it!! It was a tedious job, with a brush and a small roller :hairpull:

DBD, no problem getting the trim to curve on the wall under the window. It's strips of 1/4" thick MDF, so it's quite pliable.

AAN, my hubby used adhesive AND a nail gun to attach the trim. I assume you could get away with just nails, in which case you COULD remove it and just have to fill in the nail holes in the wall.

I've already got the furniture and most of the decorating figured out. But I'd love to hear your suggestions before I tell you what I have in mind :D

Nevermind... my what is it question that is. For some reason when I posted I didn't see your before pictures.

BTW was it hard to get the trim to curve around the window wall?

I really like it, looks very nice! That is a lot of work with the wainscotting.
I've always wondered, does it ruin the wall behind the wainscotting when you put it up or is it just a nail here and a nail there? I kind of want to do some wainscotting here but obviously it would have to be temporary since we don't own the place....

It looks supergood smoodge, can't wait to see it furnished!

I said go with the blue when you first mention it! It looks lovely. What are your plans for furniture?

Beautiful - wow you said 'soon' you really did mean it. So striking!!!! What are you going to put in it? The before doesn't seem like you. Good for going with what you love. Funny, after you showed us the blue I saw it in a house buying show in Baltimore and in a Hutterite home on Oprah - both made me rethink. You were right to start with.

And a close-up of the wainscoting.....

And now, the after..... ceiling is BM Silver Half Dollar, walls are Sico Saxon Cobalt, and the wainscoting is BM Ultra White. Wainscoting was installed by hubby and painted by me. I think he got the easier job!! :p

Next on the agenda -- decorating!! :confetti:

OK :)

First, a refresher -- remember this thread??

And this one:

http://forums.houseandhome.com/showthread.php?t=20206

Due to the sort of resounding opposition to blue, I decided to keep my plan to myself so nobody would sway me :p

So ladies, here are the before pics of the mystery room.... it was a basically a dumping ground for homeless furniture and accessories. The walls were BM Wilmington Tan and the ceiling half-strength WT.
