if you go to the second page (2) on this forum you see a topic: Moss basket help for Suzie, go down to Khyro, there I explained how DH takes clippings in the fall to grow new plants. Glad you like the flowers, hopefully I can post updates during the summer.

Thanks. I'm glad I could help a bit. Yes, the petunias are the cascading ones, we always use them in the hanging baskets and they work well too in containers. Hope you post some pics during the summer, I would like to see what you decided to plant. Happy gardening!

Thanks. Yes, the geraniums, verbenas, petunias and swan river daisies are all from clippings DH took them in the fall but every year we still hunt new plants down and buy more. I would like to get more perennials and have now a good list I can work with (thanks Chico).
Yes, at the moment we feed the plants 2O-20-20. The weather has been a bit on the rainy side lately and the pentunias are not to happy this morning but otherwise it's been extremely mild since feb/march. Hope, soon you'll be able to enjoy some better weather too.

Lisi, all your baskets and containers are beautiful!!!! Thanks for posting the pics :)

Are those wave petunias in some of your baskets?? Or are they regular petunias that have been growing long enough to get that full?! Mine are littly bitty things at the moment!!

You've given me some good ideas for more container gardens... thanks again!!

I don't have to many flowers in pots but most of them in hanging baskets. I went outside and took some pics, just ask if you need help identify a plant . Is your area shady, then you could make a container with impatiens, all white looks great with green. If you have lots of sun, I would go for white marguerites and red geranium or one with blue swan river daisies. So many options and it depends what colour you like. This year I wanted lots of blue but DH likes pink, so the garden has a bit of everything.

Thanks for the suggestions :) I might plant two more container gardens, so any more advice/tips that you have on flower or colour combinations would be great!! And if you have some pics you could post, even better!!

You have such a beautiful garden, Lisi :)

well i decided against perennials just because the barrels are soooooo heavy & big....it's not convenient to weather them indoors for the winter. i went with purple fountain grass surrounded by different shades of sweet potato vine

I think the Ivy looks great with the geranium. I had once a hanging basket with ivy, yellow calceolaria, white impatiens and pink geranium if there is still room in your container you could maybe add one of these but to me it looks pretty full.

I planted a container garden last summer, and brought it inside in the fall. About the only plants that survived are the ivys, but at least I'm off to a decent start with the container this year. I'm not sure about the geranium in the center, though -- it looks a bit.... lonely. Maybe it'll look better when more buds open. Any ideas on something else colourful that I could put in the center??

I have a second story deck and I have over 50 pots and containers of various sizes and shapes. Here is a photo from last summer.
Sorry about the late reply but I have just discovered the site!

Yes, you can use perennials in containers if you like. Depending on how hardy they are where you are they may winter over alright or not, and you may need to give them some protection over the winter, like by wrapping the container in styrofoam or bringing the container into the garage or a shed. Also depends on the size of the container, the bigger, the better. In London you should have better luck than I do here in Ottawa, where we are bit more frigid! I am trying clematis this year in a half barrel on the south side of my house -- the bark is green but no buds yet! Or, you can just treat them as annuals and replant every year.
