containers in Victoria

I'm a novice gardener with only a patio available. I want to plant some bulbs for the spring but wonder if they will be okay in containers over the winter. I am in zone 9 and it is unlikely it will even snow in Victoria in the winter. But I'm also wondering if the weather will get cold enough to prompt the bulbs to grow when it warms up again. Do I need really big containers for bulbs???? So many questions!!!

Thanks for any help

I think most bulbs can be planted 1/2 " apart and usually 3x depth of the bulb in the soil. I am in zone 5 so you would need to contact a good nursery for advide for you zone.
