My kids use to love when I made a batch of spaghetti sauce. We would have it on pasta for a meal and they also loved it over a hot dog in a bun. The sloppier the better :) I also made meat balls ahead of time and there are various ways to serve them along with a salad and rice. You can get a macaroni salad all put together at home ( cooked pasta, chopped veggies etc.) and add the dressing at the cottage. I also use to do baked potatoes at the cottage. I would slice them 1/2 " thick, like a garlic bread, add garlic , butter and parmesan between the slices, wrap each in foil and they baked in no time being sliced. You could do it this way on a BBQ but would take longer unless you separated each slice. I have a microwave steamer that is so fast to cook up local fresh veggies. You really have to be inventive to save time. Kababs can be totally easy if the meat is cut up and marinated at home.

Whatever you make in advance to take to the cottage, make sure that you have a really good insulated freezer pack. Nothing like transporting a lovely potato or egg salad and making the family sick when you serve it

I would take things that you could throw in a crockpot. Like a chicken and have it all prepared to throw in. Marinate meat to throw on the bbq. That kind of thing.
