I'm at the peak of this stupid cold and trying to get rid my annoying hack!

Anyone have any tricks for stopping a cough?

when i have a cold i have loads of flem , the robitussin i used was expectorant so it will loosen to much , causing an overload . so for me , cough suppressant will work better

It didn't eliminate my coughing completely but I was able to sleep the night. Thanks Mambo!

Is it just me or does this cold make you cough up stuff that looks like it's radioactive, from outer space??

Amy79 regular buckleys makes me gag so that's why I don't use it. It's good to know that the J&J doesn't taste like pine needles. Will keep it in mind, thanks.

magazinejunkie I'll have to try the delsumdm also. I am always up for trying new things to see what works and what doesn't on me. I was taking Robitussum but it stopped working on me when my cough got worse.

luv2, poor you I hope that you and DH manage to shake this nasty bug soon!!! My in-law's had to wear a mask around their little one when they were both sick with a flu....they had it for 2 weeks.

for me - and I'm still sick! And no meds with the pregnancy, so here I am. It is a bit better every day, but I am still totally congested, coughing, sore throat, runny nose, sneezing, tired, achy, etc. And now DH has had a relapse - he just had it. Watching DD now for signs - *sigh*.

It loosens the congestion, so when you do cough, it is more productive. I don't find that it makes me cough. When it wears off, I cough a lot of stuff out. But after I take it I don't cough much at all. I like it, it's doing what I need it to do, let me sleep at night.:)

its the best i find . maybe not j&j expec. but my doc says don't use expectorant as it makes you cough more . thats its job . its for when you have congedtion stuck in your lungs .

I have the same thing as you. a nasty chest cold. My back muscles are sore from all the coughing! I've been taking Buckley's Jack and Jill (the kids kind, about 1tsp more than the biggest kid dose) it's the expectorant in the green box. I works awesome, doesn't make me drowsy and calms my coughing almost entirely! Plus it doesn't taste like pine needles! The pharmasist told me that it was fine to use kids med. at a higher dosage. Gotta love how well buckleys works!

she was willing to figure something out afterwards but it wasn't to my benefit so I dropped the class! haha

I'll be taking it again in the fall.

no I didn't. The supply teacher saw me almost passing out and sent me home.. and said that I could do it when I was ready. When I got home I emailed my teacher (she had an ultrasound that day and couldn't make it to the exam). I told her what happened and she said it was fine. She said to email her when I felt better and I could write it. I called her 2 days later (more like 1 1/2 day later) and she said it was too late.

I wasn't too happy. hehe

apart from the coughing and the stuffiness I feel pretty normal...no weakness. I did notice that I've been having headaches though. I'd gladly take any other flu symptom instead of a cough. When I get them I get them bad...

Sorry to hear of how bad you felt. Did you end up writing the math exam, at least?

after about 2 weeks it dies down to just an annoying cough (when I would laugh, mostly). But after 3 weeks it was completely gone.

With this flu, do you feel really weak? I really felt weak and faint all the time, had no energy and had a hard time getting out of bed.

I had a math exam one day when it was really bad.. I tried to go to the school, walked into the exam room and almost passed out :( It was the worst flu I've ever had!

Make sure it's the cherry kind.

I always just had the regular lemon kind and it never worked. As soon as I tried the cherry kind, it worked really quickly.

Like I said though, it smells good and the first couple of drinks are not bad, but near the middle of the cup, it starts getting really icky!! BUT you gotta drink the whole thing.. the cough goes away!

Oh no...I hope it's not the same flu because I'm only on the 1st week!!

I just looked in my medicine cupboard and found some extra-strength apple cinamon neo citran and some vicks vaporub. I'll try your suggestion and see how it works. I hope it does cuz my chest is feeling rawer than a steak.

Thanks for the advice, hon! :)

He had a really hard time with a flu bug, and has a cough that won't go away. He went back to the doctor just to be on top of things, and was told it's just the virus lingering on with the cough.

I'll see what he thinks about the cherry Neo & Vicks. The only other thing he said kind of helped a bit is when a friend at work talked him into trying Fisherman's Friend. It was the original and he didn't like it, of COURSE. (fussbudget that he is, lol)

Hope everybody is feeling better soon.

If you have the same flu as me, it's horrible. Thank god I'm over it now (after like 3 weeks of coughing).

The ONLY thing that really worked for me was a combination of Cherry flavoured Neo Citran (I must warn you, it tastes horrible but really really works) and Vick's on my chest, neck and back.

I was coughing so bad that it hurt.. and when I'd do this right before bed I actually slept through the whole night. Stopped my cough almost immediately. It's worth a try!!
