It appears I spoke to soon when I mentioned to reno-vator that I'd never had a sewer backup. I guess the odds were not in my favour.
I have never seen such a thing. Took my laundry downstairs to do it and luckily I bought some deep rubber mats because yuck and tissue all stuck under the mats. Ebony sure thought it was interesting stuff I can tell you.
This could get ugly (or uglier) as I think I mentioned one of the neighbours ended up spending $15,000 on their sewer. Here's hoping I get what happened to the other who paid nothing. At the moment I am waiting for a city emergency crew to get here to figure out what is up. I'm sure glad they work on long weekends. As it is, I am officially off liquids until someone can fix it.
guess this is one way to get out of doing laundry.

Just an update. I searched the garage and the basement today with no luck finding my coily hose (my mom's...what a useless thing that is BTW. It must be 5 years old and never used I don't think). Anyway just as I'm about to give up I walk over to the washer to see how long it's hose is and there is the coily hose not 3 feet away, just laying against the wall, all by itself. It was spooky. I've never actually noticed it there before.
Anyway, spooky or not I hooked it up to the hot water feed, found my garden sprayer thingie and cleaned up the floor. I have to say, that is really a cool thing...hose in the basement that is. I sprayed the walls, the corners, the cob webs and anywhere else I could while I was at it. My basement is unfinished and boy did that take away a lot of dust without a lot of effort. I'm going to keep that thing handy for cleaning the basement I can tell you.
I figured this was better placed in Free For All, not such a Fab Find as everyone mentioned ;) - Good luck with the cleanup, DBD, I definitely don't envy that task!
Poor DBD! :( Definitely not a Fab Find! :hurl: Sorry to hear about your most unfortunate incident, but I'm glad it was all cleared up quickly!
oh dbd...I can relate...as I mentioned in the other thread...my pump stopped working last week and caused a flood in the basement....I had to spend $1500 bucks to replace it....luckily it wasn't my septic backing up...but it was the pump that sends waste into the septic system.....I have since bought that bacteria you had mentioned....I bought it from Mr. Rooter..their supply comes from Texas and it is $300 bucks for a year supply of bottles....I need this for my septic because it breaks down the waste and helps prevent blockage in the tile beds.......anyways I hope everything works out.....water can be so damaging.....................
Yeah sewage backup really is right up there on the ick scale. Tomorrow I have to see if I still have my coily hose somewhere. There is no tap other than to the washer downstairs and I really want to hose the place with some hot water (and my garden hose is under some snow somewhere...first time I've not brought it in for the winter). For the life of me I can't remember if it came with the move or not so I guess I'll be on a bit of a search mission tomorrow (which could be okay because if I am looking for the hose I may just find my paintbrushes).
Sorry to hear about the trouble you"re having, DBD. CRAP is right!
It's a long weekend in AB...family day. One of the former Premiers felt we needed a day off in Feb. I used to really hate it because when I worked for the Gov't which is union it meant we lost the long weekend in Aug. because of it. Around here the Aug day off is much nicer to have than one in the middle of winter.
Jeep I think in Calgary it's to the property line. The thing I don't know is if they count the roots from the trees that are planted on City land that have drifted onto private property as mine or theirs. Also the report they seems to say that at least one block was on my property and one on City so what does that mean to who pays? The other thing I don't know is at what point is this something you declare a big problem orjust a maintenance thing?
I guess I'll drag out my old enzymes again. I have some I used to use at the other house I had and you pour them in the drain every week to keep a bunch always living in the drains. They eat any organic matter including roots, hair, or other 'build up'.
i thought she was excited and found some super find that we were all going to go gaga over :D oh my gosh bunny, im glad things are now looking better....scarey when things like this happen.

Ewwwwwwwwwww and double ewwwwwwwww. Glad they came to check out the problem today. Holiday - what holiday?
LOL - saw this was in Fab Finds - thought you were pulling our leg.
That's good that is what DS had to do and now he has his snaked on a regular basis and hpes to prevent it from happening again.
Gee I thought I put this in the FFA...guess I was a tad distracted because this certainly doesn't come under my definitions of 'fab finds'.
So the emergency guys have come and gone. I have to say that is excellent service being a Sunday and all. They found 3 blockages in the pipe but cleared them. I guess I am supposed to call the office on Tuesday to arrange for someone to come out with a camera to see what's up. He was surprised that after living on this street for 13 years I'd never had it happen before because he figures he has been in every house a few times. Such is life with 80 yr old trees.
One nice thing is the big pool of water I had made by doing a test flush for them sucked most of the crud back down when they cleared the block. He told me to run the washing machine a few times then get some bleach on the floor so I feel better.
DS had his backup earlier this year again and he has it snaked and it clears. It cost him about $150.00 so hopefully yours will bea ble to be fixed that easy. He told me that it is the responibilty of the home owner for the sewer lines right out to the middle of the street where it meets the city main. I was shocked I thought it was only on your property but not where he lives it isn't.
Awful news. I've never experienced this and I can only imagine! I hope your situation gets fixed as quickly as possible.
