Hi:
We planted a Crimson King Norway Maple about two years ago. It is looking very healthy with lots of leaves, however, it seems rather spindly. Does anyone know if it would be a good idea to lop a bit off the top to make it bushier, and if so, how much? We live in Eastern Ontario.

where you want to make sure it develops good stong foundations so the branches never have crotch formations that can weaken the tree. Having said that, you want to prune so there is a strong central "leader" to your tree, leading upwards.

I was looking for some pruning info recently and came across this site. It says that cutting some off the top of a tree is not a good practice. I didn't know that until I read this article and maybe it doesn't pertain to all tree types but I just thought you might be interested to read this.
