Anyone with opinions on what currants are? DH considered them a dried up European fruit. I thought they were super dried up raisins. What are these little dark nuggets that I buy in the baking aisle? It was part of my chicken recipe tonight. I always thought of them as an ingredient in mincemeat. Same thing?

Thanks jeep. This sounds like what DH was thinking about. I've never made mincemeat and had a mental block to it - actually this chicken recipe was the first time I've used currants. Nice subtle flavour. Just shows an old dog can learn new tricks/recipes.
Currants grow on a bush similar to a blueberry bush. I grew both red and green currants. The ones you buy are the red currants and dried just like grapes that end up as raisins.
