Does anyone know anything about such a plant? I picked up this one lone markdown thinking it was an ornamental grass/spike. Now it's blooming these really long stemmed star like flowers. No colour yet - still green. But can't find any info on whether it's an annual or a perennial. Anyone ever hear of it??

Ah ha!! Thank you Mary Anne...I believe that may be exactly what it is!! The plant tag was spelled differently, but it's looking a lot like the plants on the website you provided!! I love this site!! I've tried to include a photo - but it was taken from a much further distance, and after I've enlarged it I'm not sure you can quite make it out....it's in the pot with the fushia impatiens.
but the plant you have, I think, is Cyprus papyrus -- commonly known as papyrus (the same one the Egyptians used to make paper). See some photos here:

You might try looking for a pond plant supplier in Canada to see what info they have. These are bog plants.
can you post a pic and maybe someone can ID it for you. Are there any other names on the tag of the plant?
