Dark couches and Chairs

It would be nice for House & Home to do more living rooms with practical coloured couches using black or browns rather than beige or white.  I believe your fans are like me who already have dark couches and would like design ideas to work with them rather than having to buy all new furniture in beige.

Thanks Mrs. Peacock!  Finding these great photos on the internet really has me excited about the changes I've planned.  I'll be working mostly with what I have, including thrift store finds.  I bought some bamboo roman blinds on sale at Sears a while back, and I still have to get a few small storage cabinets from Ikea.  Painting will happen sometime in 2011.

There's a few obstacles to work out, including an idea to look into getting taller feet or legs for my sofa and loveseat.  One day when I have time I have to do a test with cans to get a visual on that, and if it looks/feels right I'll be ditching the cheapy plastic 1 1/4" feet for chunky wooden legs, maybe 3" or so.  Having low-to-the-floor seating was ideal when my son was a toddler, but now he's older and I  notice his grandparents have a slightly difficult time rising from a seated position when they visit.  My sofa/loveseat has an 80's look even though it's only 10 years old, so I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that I can pull this off.

I see your pictures are on now-I really like the style of your set and how you have put together this lovely room.  (great legs btw!)

LivingroomLivingroomLivingroom #2Livingroom #2Dawn:  I love the inspiration pictures.  Before I read all the way through your paragraph I thought you were going to say that the first picture was your living room.  I was sooooo envious and was wondering why you were going to make changes to it (now that the toys are on the way out).  But alas, just a dream.

I have a couch and two chairs all in dark brown leather (next time I think I will get 2 chairs in a different material and colour/pattern but for now we are making due) and the look I have going is sort of cigar club/dark/comfortable.  I am happy with it. I have tried to upload a couple of pictures but it won't let me so will try later.

I face the same challenge.  I had a black sofa/loveseat set given to me and I love it because it has stood up so well in our family room.  Now that toys are on their way out of there I'm planning some changes.  For me, creating a mix of dark and light through the room and using pattern and texture is what I think will give me the look I want.  My most favorite inspiration pictures at the moment are:
