Hey DBD,
Just wondering if you are able to take this dress and somehow make it have a light blue lining with white lace overlay and a blue sash?????
TIA!!!!!
Mel

That dress is great ( I am no going back on my diet). LOL But now that I see your one eye  I can understand why blue or torquoise!! But with your colouring the ivory will also look great !!
Thanks Joanna. Its true...you can see the aqua against the sea/sky backdrop. In fact....I think it looks FABULOUS!!! So, a blue dress is still a possiblity. I'm going to try another bridal salon that carries this same line of dresses and see if i can try one on in the various shades of blue. Just to see how it looks.
Again, thanks to all of you. Please keep the suggestions coming!!! The wedding isn't for another year....so plenty of time for me to find the dream dress. (if I haven't already)
PS..I wanna wear aqua cause its my favorite colour..always has been. But also, I have dark brown hair and blue eyes. (You can see both in this pic from my Facebook account..LOL) And I always get the most amazing compliments when I wear any shade of blue.
I also like the red dress, and what ever makes us look tiny has to be the one!!! ;)
I would hate to think that you are giving up on your dream to wear a blue dress though.....just because someone said it wouldn't show up in pictures against the blue ocean. Check out this site:

None of the brides are wearing blue, but you can still see how blue does show up nicely against the ocean backdrop......some even better than white.
Very nice dress. It looks more sophisticated to me without being starchy. It also looks very comfortable compared to some dresses they have.
Yes to the red one, especially since you know it suits you. In ivory or blue. Fancy jewellery - nice!
I am thinking (after a previous poster mentioned that TLC wedding dress/gown show where I have seen) that you can sometimes get the designer to alter the pattern (if possible) and get the body of the 'red dress' but ask for the halter neckline that you preferred on another dress.
Customizing your dress with the desired pattern, fabric, finishes. No limits !!
:)
i too think the first dress you posted is beautiful but this red one in an ivory color just seems soooooo perfect for a beach wedding, WOW im so jealous, i alway say if i could do it again it would be on a beach, how beautiful. You deserve this beautiful wedding, congratulations Mel!!!!! :clapping: You made a excellent point, this red dress is just as elegant as a wedding gown, but because its not labelled a wedding gown, it will save you big bucks...smart move girl. Let us know if you decide on this one.
All the best Mel

janetc
to the red one in ivory........ :) love it.
Very nice Mel! I also lithe lines of the black dress.
Cute Smoodge!!! I looked at that site and there are white/aqua sarongs! I think its a smidge casual, but i'm definitely gonna keep it in mind. Thanks.
Pearl, thanks! That one is adorable...without the flower! LOL!!!
I found this bridesmaid gown that looks the best on me out of all the dresses i've tried yet. I was considering ordering it in the tourquise...but after all the discussion on here, I might order it in ivory and as suggested wear some uber-fabulous blue jewelry. (compliments of DF's visit to Dubai-of course) The bridesmaid dress route saves a BUNDLE of cash as well...money I can spend on other things...like great food!!!! Anyway, take a looksyand see what you think.
(its the red one) I love it cause it makes me look TINY!! And it has a lovely neckline/shape that doesn't make me look like I'm all boobs!! It also has straps (which I'm more comfortable wearing) and its adorably "girly" without being over the top. Oh yeah...and its chiffon so it'll blow around a little in the wind..the way a beach wedding dress should!
just one more................. :) without the flower.
If you had your wedding at sunset, a blue or aqua dress would look great against an orange sky :)
The wedding dress here is quite casual, but maybe a dress this length would be good for a beach wedding (click the picture for a link to more pics of the dress):

And of course you can wear a blue wedding dress, or any other colour that you want :)
Well before you get your heart set on a dress I think you are wise to be out trying some on to get an idea of the cut and shape that suits you. If you ever watch that 'say yes to the dress' show the one thing you see is how often the dress they saw in the mag isn't the one that ends up suiting them best anyway. You have time, go with an open mind.
While a mermaid dress would be quite fitting for a beach wedding....they look fairly crappy on me. I have a whole lotta boobs...and not a whole lotta hips. Something with a slight A-line looks best.
Thanks tho!
hey Mel, i have an idea for you: if your wedding will be onthe beach, why not to choose a 'mermaid' dress? :) :)
OK...bad news! The closest place is in Calgary. CRAP!!! Maybe I'll look for something simillar to try while I'm waiting to get to Calgary
Good news!! We know who the designer is....now all Ihave to do is find a place in this dang city that carries it!!
LOL! Thanks for assuming I'm still quite young!! I havent' been able to find the first dress posted anywhere in person...in fact....the couple of stores I visited today weren't even sure which designer makes the dress  I've posted it on the bridal forum I'm part of and I'm hoping someone on there might recognize it. I'm not giving up the search!
PS...the top of the dress I tried on is FANTASTIC on me! It looked way better than any strapless dresses I tried.
Mel, Were you able to try on the first dress you posted? I think that one is by far superior to the other two you have come up with. I agree with another poster who said that once you get to the sun and surf you might not want such a formal (taffeta) dress. Also, I, personally, am not fond of the top of that dress....I much prefer the strapless. I assume that you are still quite young and once you hit a certain age you won't be able to wear a dress like this again....or at least one should not wear one ;)
I LOVE this dress!!!
WOW!!! Haven't you all been busy!?! I agree with DBD that blue isn't a great choice picture wise. Thanks for all the pics/suggestions you gals have come up with. Keep it coming!!!
So, after trying on several dresses today (not as many as I would have liked) the favorite is this one. Its shown on a plus sized model..making it look a tiny bit different then it does on me. Also, this is taffeta (heavier fabric than I wanted) but the style is SOOOOO flattering! The neckline is gorgeous!! Anyway, see what you think
I am sorry but Cindy Crawford is a beautiful women but that looked like she was wearing her slip land forgot her dress. My son went to a wedding in Florida on the beach and the guests were told no shoes and casual slacks and wild colourful shirts. He said the bride and groom were dresses in traditional but no shoes he said it was pretty cool to see his friend in a tux and barefeet.
:) another lace dress which shows up nicely with the blue water.

..and a few more
Mel,
I have had a great time doing a Google search on beach wedddings and blue dresses. Come up with lots of stuff from dresses, decor, favours and cakes. I think I really got carried away, but it was fun.....and I say go for it...all the way ;) Here are a few of the things I found....
Maybe this is too practical a comment. Do you want a full length dress if you will be standing in the sand? Also once you get to the island your dressed up mood may change to a more casual one.
I was all for blue until dbd mentioned the blue sky & sea backdrop. Something to think about.
How about a gorgeous blue dress like you originally posted for the reception? Nothing wrong with changing outifts after the ceremony and food is served. Do you know any seamstresses that could make you your dresses as that way you could afford both for the price of one from a store.
Hmmm...some very good points Ladies. I'm pretty psyched about starting the dress hunt tomorrow. I'd thought I pretty much had my mind made up but in the past few days I've noticed different styles starting to catch my eye. Thanks for all your thoughts and opinions...I'll be sure to keep you in the loop.
:) Mel
YAY!!! I'm gettin married!!!!!
Sorry, but trying to put the liner in blue is pretty difficult (in Photoshop that is).
I like both dresses but I think you should consider where you might be standing or having your pictures taken before you go for a blue. When my niece got married in Mexico it was on the beach and the pictures had a lot of water and sky in the background so you wouldn't want to do that and appear as only a head and shoulders if the dress vanished into the background.
Love all the dresses. I have seen blush pink dresses, blush champagne silk dresses and golden hue dresses but never blue.
I would keep the first dress as is BUT would suggest wearing fab AQUAMARINE
jewelery.
& a gorgeous pair of blue shoes. and carry a bouquet of blue hydrangeas.
Ice princess you would be ;)
