decorating intervention emergency!!!

I've got a serious problem on my hands here! I've been seeing a guy who bought a house last winter with the intention of reno-ing it (it needs it!) - right now the only redeeming qualities are a lake view and big lot. Unfortunately he works long hours, and the major reno isn't going to happen until at least next spring. He says that after seeing my place, it makes him realize that he needs to do some decorating - maybe some paint, pictures, etc. until the reno starts. Here's where the serious intervention is needed - he says he'd like to get a freakin' bison skull (there's a few bison ranches around here) and decorate around it. How can I convince him that a dead animal skull is neither a decor item nor something to base a "theme" around?

I've never had a relationship end over bad decorating taste, but seriously......

I like your thinking dbd! :biglol: And yep, bleached white, reminiscent of fake navajo rugs and other "lovely" southwestern accents. The garden though....that's an idea....it could mysteriously get picked up and carried off by a neighborhood dog......

Are we talking a bleached white skull here? If it still has it's horns maybe you can suggest it would make a good seat. Or it could hang on the wall and hold a throw maybe (so it would be covered at least). Or advise him it must be painted metallic gold or vibrant magenta with lights put in it that glow through the eyes. Come up with enough ideas and he may get the idea that this may not be the best place to start for decorating. I bet it would be okay in the garden.

Fortunately this is kind of like socks and sandals, if the relationship takes off it's one of those things that can be fixed.

Yeah, it's his house, but I've never met anyone who figured that animal skulls would be a great accessory.... He asked my opinion, I tried to be tactful and suggest that may not the best idea....we'll see what happens! At least he's got some other redeeming qualities :D

oh boy, that's a doozie!! Do you see yourself with this guy long term? If so, I would let him know how you feel & maybe keep the real guy stuff to the basement or garage; otherwise it is his place...

Puddlejumper: just tell him how you feel about the bison head, and that you cannot decorate around it.

My husband is an outdoorsy type and likes hunting, fishing, etc etc.
He has all sorts of trophies and my rule is he can put them up in the basement or work room or garage but never on the main floor or bedrooms.

Maybe you should start to date other people LOL. or convince him to do the bison skull decorating in the garage. :)
