Deep Pocket Sheets

I've pretty much decided on buying a Serta bed at Sleep Country. My back needs some extra comfort. I'd love to have a king but room size dictates that it be a queen. These beds are so big that the bedroom would be all bed. I can fit a King in just think it will look silly.

The turnoff is the cost of sheets and mattress pad. Anyone with advice for plain, no strip or pattern, sheets that won't be shrinking after a few washes. The overpriced, supposedly deep, sheets that I bought at Home Sense barely fit my present non-deep mattress. This is crazy. The mattress salesman is recommending washing in cold water and then air drying. For $170 I want to be able to dry the sheet set.

I'm going to look online but has anyone any knowledge of the 6" extra wide queen by Simmons? This might cost a fortune as it is non-standard. Frankly I think you could put king sheets on it and just let them shrink the way everything else seems to.

Check out the Yves Delorme Sheets at www.jackryn.com .

All King sheets have deep pockets and are of such quality that they will last a lifetime.  http://jackryn.com/YvesDelorme

You are right, when you buy quality you should be able to wash it in the regualr wash!

Jackryn also sells sheet sets for King in the store but that is in Aurora... you can always call becasue they do ship to BC a lot.

I ended up with a set of Queen sheets from Winners. The brand name is Malibu, 800TC, elastic all around the bottom and they cost $69.99. I prewashed & dried warm before the new mattress arrived. There was no problem with them being too small. Hope this continues and I think it will. There wasn't too much lint in the drier. My old set of sheets that were continually shrinking always left lots of lint.

I've only purchased one set of House&Home sheets (at the Bay) and I didn't have a problem with shrinkage. My problem was the chintzy size of the pillow cases. They barely cover a standard size pillow.

Some are in store only, some are site only. The Kirkland brand that I have (smooth cotton - 400 count) have been really good and are now my favs. You have to keep your eyes open (as with anything at Costco) since they change by season, sometimes they only have either king or queen in, sometimes they seem to have seasonal leftovers on the site for a great price. It's just one of those things you end up checking every time you are there to see what they have as it's always changing. For instance the sheets I like are not always available so if I see them on sale or in a colour I want, I grab them then.

ooo I didn't even know Costco made sheets...is there a website to check them out? Or do they only sell them in store?

I wanted to mention that my MIL has had terrible luck when buying deep pocket sheets at Winners/Homesense. Keep your receipt if you do! She has had to return THREE fitted sheets/sets because of although marked deep fitted, they don't fit her mattress well. And she's a very easy going person...

Me too. Those Costco sheets get no special treatment. Warm to hot wash depending on need, and into the dryer on a normal setting and they don't seem to have shrunk at all.

I have washed the Costco sheets in hot water - another reason I love them...

Isey - that was a name I made up in the spur of the moment when I was driving a van. I sometimes get down to the Surrey area so will have to check them out.

The magazine articles always tell you to wash your sheets in hot water to kill any dust mites, etc. I've never found a set of sheets in years that could handle hot water. Maybe the scratchy 200 TC ones cans. The mattress salesman said he washes in cold, puts them through an extra spin and then into the dryer on air only. I still am going to stay with warm & warm settings.

I am assuming from your name that you are in Vancouver? I know that they just opened a Bed Bath and Beyond in Surrey. They might be a good option. I haven't yet checked them out but they have a site online for Canada that you could check out. If you go let me know how it is.

I bought a latex mattress that isn't very deep at all and now my problem is all this extra pocket I no longer need
I only bought one set of sheets from Homesense that appeared to shrink but I wash in cold water anyway and never leave too long in the dryer.

I love our Costco sheets. They are vry deep and feel FABULOUS! I would imagine some would iron them because they do come out wrinkly - I am one that does not care about that. Best set of sheets I have ever bought!!! (and definitely nice and deep with complete elastic)

I've decided to get a Penny's card. The next time I know I'll be in the US I'll pre-order some sheets. I nearly bought a set today except found a pair at Winners that I hope will work. They have the bottom elastic too. The price was not too much more and I need them by Friday.

I bought curtains from JC's catalogue once and they were good quality for the cost.

Combed Pima cotton percale that fit 18" mattress. They are often on sale and shipping is not that costly.:)
They go in the washer and dryer-no problems. The elastic runs all around the sheet for a good fit.

Pearl - I was thinking you'd know this. Do they charge Duty?

I noticed that their sheets have the elastic all around the bottom. Can you wash warm & put in dryer? I'm looking at some Chris Madden sheet sets.

If there are various shipping methods, which one do you use?

I don't have a J.C. Penny card. Is this a problem?

I'm going to check out the SuperStore & Costco.ca. Forgot about both of those.

Thanks evreyone.

The sheets Costco carries in the store (queen being about $80) are very deep and very comfy. Every once in a while they have them on the site (usually at a clearance price so it's worth watching the site as I think I got my last set for $39 or $49). I think they are 400 or 450 pure cotton and so nice and smooth and soft. I bet mine have 18" pockets as they are way deeper than my pillow top mattress and easily cover it complete with feather bed on top which adds a couple more inches.

You might also keep your eye on TSC as they are starting to carry 'over sized queen" in duvets and things. I have one of their duvets and it's a lot bigger than the typical queen (which made finding a cover for it interesting). Their sheets are typically quite deep and go on as Showstoppers fairly regularly.

I think I would buy the sheets before I bought a non-standard mattress and take the sheet into the store to try it on the bed. Not being able to buy fitted sheets could be an issue.

Wolf - just did some further checking. The non custom Olympic Queen is no longer available. Too bad as this would have been the perfect solution for my bedroom.

Now I'm looking for the 18" + sheets for a regular queen. Who would have thought it was that hard? A mattress cover will likely be even harder. Too bad I hadn't known what I wanted when I was in the U.S. a couple of weeks ago. I hate to pay the shipping, etc when I don't know what the product is really like.

So far I've checked out Sears, Costco & will look in HBC tomorrow. So few choices. I hadn't realized. This is one of the disadvantages of living in a smaller city.

I will check out Au Lit. Thanks. - Just looked at them. The sheets weren't deep enough. I just want a plain ivory sheet. For me, must not have any design or pattern.
