Ok Rachel enough already maybe you don't agree with what someone said but that doesn't mean it is ok to start with the name calling. For people that are so new here and have been around just lurking it is amazing that this time you choose to come out and start a battle.

wow. now we're digging up the charter to see if we can make a legal case for why someone shouldn't be allowed to express their opinions on a public forum (one that is all about the very serious topics of decor, tv shows and their hosts).

i am absolutely turned off by these forums now. the fact that some dictator bunny seems to be running the show is enough to compell me to officially inquire about our so called "freedom of speech" on these boards. and that's exactly what i intend to do.

if people can actually slag Lynda Reeves on these forums (forums that belong to her magazine!), and still get away with it, i still don't understand why some bully poster can't deal with comments about a TV host that has nothing to do with her (and the manner in which we express our opinions shouldn't matter to you either. unless you're in charge of screening comments for everyone, too).

i'm with lizbeth on this one: i've wasted enough time on you, so don't even bother with me, diva.

ladyofthehouse's picture

Lizbeth...I find myself agreeing with all you said there, then again I look at things from all angles. Number of posts just means you have plenty of time on your hands, or like to say something just for the sake of it.

I have been a long time reader of the site as well, and am farmiliar with most users and what they have to or don't have to say. Suzanne Dimmer, love her or loathe her, there is the option to switch off or change channel on your box.

Oops, a correction. There is freedom of expression in the Charter but the difference in Canada is it is limited (they don't say that in the Charter, it's in other laws passed by the Supreme Court since the writing of the Charter).

Maybe this looks familiar "The Talk Forums community is made up of friendly, considerate, helpful and respectful members of every stripe." You'll find it on the main forum page and the key words are in there.

Free for All isn't supposed to imply mean spirited, rude, or confrontational as you seem to think. FYI (and Rachel you may want to know this too) there is no freedom of speech act, law, or right in Canada. Popular misconception you have going there. It does not exist. As a matter of fact it is against the law in this country to speak or write or behave in a way which insights hatred or violence. It's an effort to be civilized and that is what you will usually find here.

If you want to go around barking orders and insults at people and generally showing a lack of respect don't be surprised if it comes back at you.

There were a lot of anti Dimma comments here, go back and read them and maybe you'll see it was the way certain comments were made that came across as nasty, just as was your post to me. You don't have to be rude to get your point across.

Rachel's picture
Rachel

well stated, lizbeth. i've been reading these boards for a really long time too, even though i just recently decided to participate in them. i wouldn't appreciate anyone trying to bully me either. it's called freedom of speech. and besides, look at the dozens and dozens of anti-Dimma comments on this board! it's nothing new to read what you had said about her earlier. yet someone found that offensive? maybe these people complaining are related to Dimmer? :D

i must remember to post at least two or three times a day, even if it's about nothing. just so i can get my tally up! it seems to matter around here.

Hold it a minute here. Who exactly left you in charge? I think the memo must have missed my desk.

Some of the people you are saying " Toughen up or just don't come around." happen to have been here a lot longer than 9 posts and a portion of a month and although you are absolutely welcome to your opinion I don't think you have been around long enough to be making those kind of statements to long time members. If there was a finger wagging smilie I'd be inserting it here.

If you had read my last post clearly, you would have seen that it was directed at the person who had just made a comment before me (isn't that the way it works here?). And if you look at that person's posts, they seem to be a relative "newbie" here as well. So I don't know why you're getting all excited about the rest of the long-time members on here. This was not directed at you or them.

Either way, the number of posts that someone has made on a forum means nothing with respect to our freedom to express our opinions. There are people who have been enjoying these boards for years but have not posted until recently. And that includes myself. I am quite familiar with these boards and I know that there will always be members on here who are not afraid to speak their opinions (that includes me). And there are those who will become overly sensitive and throw a hissy fit when someone says something semi-harsh about a subject or a tv show (which always baffles me, since again, these comments are not directed at anyone on these forums).

It's a "free for all" forum (as the title on the main page implies). So I'm really not clear on who deemed you the snob-finger-wagging authority in a space where we are all free to speak our minds -- newbies or not.

(For the record, I am done conversing with you about this. It's ridiculous enough that I had to waste my time explaining the above to someone who supposedly knows the ins and outs of this forum so well. People don't join these boards to be harassed. They come to express ideas and opinions. Not to spend time debating with bullies).

Geez! What's with the overly sensitive people on here lately? It's not like anyone is criticizing your mom!

They are TV HOSTS. And we are their VIEWERS. And these public forums are for sharing information and OPINIONS.

Toughen up or just don't come around. Plain and simple.

I'm with you Sarah_B (and 80% of these boards): Dimma has no business being a host. You need a personality for that. And a real vocab wouldn't hurt either.

As with all forms of entertainment, everyone is free to critique and have their own opinions on people's performance, etc. So you really shouldn't worry about other people's statements regarding show hosts (whether they seem catty to you or not). They really are not directed at you.

And if you feel that these comments are wasting your time, you need not take the time to read them. We're always going to voice our opinions on shows -- these are forums for open discussion. Again, no need to take any "Dimmer" comments personally. ;)

it's too bad the date (year) doesn't show on threads. This one was started over a year ago and only the last few posts are referring to this season's show so it's a little confusing.

I think Anna is being more personable in this series than in previous challenges and yes, I did see her crack a smile. Let's see, she was intrigued by the Newfoundlander accent and had to call to see if it was real. As I recall they had a great laugh over some of his answers.

Come on guys does Suzzanne deserve to be slammed that bad?

Ahhh, but I think that too many are falling in "like" with Anna too soon. They've only shown one episode! I agree that HGTV probably got a lot of negative feedback about her in previous years but I highly doubt she has all of a sudden changed her personality for the cameras. It's called "creative editing". Who knows how much they cut out that we didn't see?

As for Suzanne "Dimmer", call me when we find a pulse and we can revisit this boring affair. If I'm not too busy washing my hair, of course.

Sure, we all have our different tastes in design, but the way I see it, there is nothing special or unique about Anna Simone's work. She specializes in MASS CONDO DEVELOPMENT.

See anything unique in that?

Give me a break. It's the standard cookie cutter all white furniture B.S. that we've seen over and over again.

So if you can't give us something unique on the design front, AT LEAST give us some on-air personality that we can all tolerate, or at miminum, respect.

She lost me a long time ago. And now that COMATOSE Suzanne "Dimmer" is even a bigger boring twit than she ever was.

I don't think anything can save that show now.

LOL!!! Suzanne DIMMER??? You just made my day. I have been looking for a nickname for that boring barbie forever! That's hilarious.

And I totally agree with you on Ms. Know It All Simone (knows it all about generic condos, but what's fresh about that?). Ugh.

a problem with design of anyones home, that is personal preference...as they say, to each his own" and if the knock offs are taken from her designs than to me that is a compliment to her, that someone would want to mock her design. I did not watch the show, however my beef with Anna Simone is not her style or even how she dresses, its her personality, if she even has one there.....first impressions can be lasting ones. Now we see her as a tv personality, perhaps in real life she is completely different and actually has a personality...JMO

i'm with you on the bachelor :D now there's a quality show! i actually flip between it and project runway.

as for the designer challenge show. if you don't get a show at the end of it, then what really is the point? i think they've done a bad job at communicating what the point of the show is really.

bbyrne's picture

the way you pick on established designers. Perhaps Simone's style and ability to design with the maximum level of mulitfunctionality isn't your ideal interior design but it is hers and she's damned good at it (I believe the term is award winning). If you study her own living space, you'd see exactly where the design brilliance in everything having a multifunction. The fact she doesn't have little frou frous on and in every corner does not negate the space's decor value.

I find it quite amusing that all those Blah's and knockoffs that most on this forum go and on about are merely a reworking of a previous design (and if you do your homework , in most cases it was originally designed by a designer in the minimalist movement). Why even Ms Stewart's line of furnishings are deriatives of a previous furniture era.

I can understand the disappointment in the overall show that some people have mentioned, but the failure of the show isn't because Anna Simone can't be all warm and fuzzy. We are at a point in reality Tv that we've seen too much, too often and it's just not on the cutting edge of entertainment anymore. That's what's wrong with the show and shows like it. Anyway, JMO

last years winner from Toronto, who already had a business going in decorating. So maybe after all the exposure with her win. she decided her business was more lucrative then a Tv show and she did not need the exposure. Who knows. I wouls imagine a tv show would eat up much time from your business and if you do not need it then why do it.
