Recently there were suggestions flying around for 40th birthday presents for a friends 40th birthday present.
Well, I am looking for my DH's 40th birthday present. I know for sure that he doesn't like watches, jewelry or anything of that sort.
We won't be having a party for him until after I convocate in the Spring and we move back to our home city (we just don't have many friends here...). So I would like to have a very special present for him but like usual have no ideas. Our kids will be getting him a football jersey of our favorite sports team. He thinks that will suffice (probably b/c I am in university and we are down to one income)- but I think he secretly is hoping for something more and I would really like to surprise him with something...
I am thinking in the $200-300 range.

Just give him a rainscheck for the gift you originally wanted to give him. If money is tight right now I'm sure he will be delighted at your restraint in saving money, as most DH's seem to be inclined :) He'll get a great gift in the end and something to look forward to in the process.
Print some photos of the team and of the city the team is from, that kind of thing and stick it on one side of a birthday card.
my 'dear husband'
who is DH?
Jeep, it is funny you mentioned that because that is exactly what the kids and I planned to do. It was for hockey. However, we can't get tickets until NEXT year! and we started looking 6 months prior to his actual birthday. We were so disappointed. This is what has led us to what in the world we are going to do.
We do have season tickets for a CFL team, but that is not until June. Any suggestions of what we could buy now for a game later in the season would be great.
I have to say that he is REALLY,REALLY hard to buy for.
What about tickets for his favourite Football team game if they are close enough for him to get to. An overnight getaway for the 2 of you. My SIL bought my BIL a days rental of a really fancy sports car that he loved. He got to tour around in this dream car for the day and had a ball.
