how are you guys doing with WW? Are you still going? I am doing ok - lost 2 lbs this week though! the trick for me this week was to start right after meeting and not put it off a few days and then start again. I was basiclly staying the same by not really getting into it till Sun. Staying for the meetings aslo makes a difference for me. Updates please!

To make your oatmeal more flavourful and to add protein and calcium, try making it with milk instead of water, and add a spoonful of peanut butter and a bit of honey to sweeten it.

had stopped going to the gym for many months and the pounds started to creep up on us. Some friends gave us a hospital diet and my DH and I were curious to try it. This diet is used on patients who need quick weight loss for surgery. It consisted of vegetable soup, and soup and more soup with a banana and a steak thrown into the mix for protein and energy. We starving most of the time, even though we were allowed to each as much soup as we wanted. After eating the same soup 3 times a day for 3 days I wanted to puke. We lost 15 pounds in 2 weeks and felt like total doo doo by the end of it.
I am sick of diets and have come to realize that they do not work to fix an underlying problem. Exercise, eating in moderation and positive thinking is key to weight control!

that the "stress" of starving, slows down weight loss. I eat 1/3 cup (dry)of regular rolled oats to 2/3 water done in the microwave, add a dash of cinnamon (and sugar substitute) in the morning and you are barely hungry by mid afternoon. Maintaining your blood sugar levels is important to feeling good, while losing weight.

It really just comes down to common sense -- if you eat right, exercise, and don't starve yourself or deny yourself foods that you enjoy, you'll have an easier time reaching your goal.

I started my weight loss regimen January 2003. By Septmeber, I lost about 75 pounds and went down 10 clothing sizes. In the past year, I've more or less maintained my new weight. I don't watch what I eat as carefully as I did before, but I still try to make as many good food choices as possible. We all indulge and give into cravings now and then. That's perectly normal -- you just have to be extra-careful after indulging.

A few tips -- make your sandwich with one piece of bread instead of 2, but put on the same amount of filling that you would put onto a normal-sized sandwich. And use a multi-grain bread instead of white bread. At supper, make sure that half of what's on your plate is veggies -- the other half can be whatever you want (provided it's not deep fried, greasy food every night!!) And if you're hungry, eat something!! An apple, some trail mix, a glass of V8, some carrots.... starving yourself actually does the opposite of what you would think -- your body goes into starvation mode and is less efficient at burning calories. And the more you exercise, the more efficient your metabolism gets.

Good luck!!

how was your week? I can't believe it but I lost 1.6 lbs. I was very bad all week. Binges, beer, takeout! I have been warned that it may show up next week, so I need to be good this week. I did exercise last week. On holidays this week and going out of town - so I will be eating on the run. Packed low pts snacks in the car. WW meeting was really good this week. Lots of sharing tips. Do you guys usually stay to meetings? Do u find them useful? Hang in there!

Oh sorry I have not posted here for awhile. I am still with Atkins and have lost 30 lbs. I seem to have hit a plateau. I bought a treadmill and now have to find someone to put it all together. Right now it is in the living room lol. in pieces. I do not eat a lot of red meat on the Atkins. I eat fish of all kinds, (fresh and canned) chicken, shrimp and bacon, eggs, ham. Cheese, veggies, avacados, nuts, lots salads with cheeses added or tuna or salmon. I also make a great casserole with a cheese sauce and add all kinds of stuff, carrots, cauliflower, brocolli etc. I stopped counting carbo grams and just eat. My blood pressure is way down and I can run up/down stairs much faster lol.

how are you doing - having heard from you in this thread for awhile?

what's best is different for everyone - but not eating much & hungry all the time doesn't sound like a life long - I am doing ok on WW- not becasue the program doesn't work, just becasue I haven't given it 100%. The best thing about it, is that you basiclly eat a little bit of everything. Hang in there!

I still have 40 lbs to lose. I gained 50 with each pregnancy and 20 when My Mum died. What a disaster my life has been !! I did the Bernstein thing and lost 30 lbs, but I have fallen off the wagon and still have 40 more to go. I just can't get back into the diet. I have 4 weeks paid for and I can't go !! I have tried Atkins again, but hate all the meat. Everyone is talking about WW. What are everyone's results ?? The problem with doing Bernstein and Atkins is the rapid weight loss. The thought of switching to a program like WW where the loss is slow is unappealing to me. I know if I stick to Bernstein I will lose 40lbs by Xmas....but the thought of being hungry and eating nothing makes me cringe. Any advice ??

I lost .6. I thought I would do alot better, but you're right, I didn't track a few meals, and I paid the price.
I just got a banana muffin recipe from my friend. It's 1.5 pts.
I went to Tim Horton a minute ago and ask for low fat raspberry muffin and the girl serving is in WW also, I asked her how many points, she said 5 points. Wow! I threw it out, and I'm going to get ready to make my WW muffins. I'll post it later! and let you know if they're good.

How was your week? I gained 0.2 lbs - I didn't track & I had second portions - so I know where I went wrong. And I didn't start off any better today. But I will not give up!
any good tips to share? Low point snacks, etc..

I haven't been tracking! I'm going to read to core plan over tonight and might try that for a change. I don't find it structured enough for me though...Keep posting, it helps me! The lecturer said that she loves the core plan, so with her confirmation it might psychologically click!

This my first week on weight watchers and I'm not good at keeping track of points. I may have to go with the core plan so I don't have to keep track. I always find it a challenge to exercise but I'm hoping to squeeze it in at least 3 x a week.

I am not pigging out or anything, but I haven't been keeping track either, or exercising. I hope you guys are doing well!

I just joined Weight Watchers on Wednesday. My friends at work convinced me and they both lost almost 28 lbs each! It's been a little difficult and I'm not counting my points as closely as I should. I just might have to go with the core plan for that reason. I hope they don't tell me I've gained weight when I go on Wednesday!!

If you're trying to lose weight (or even just wanting to maintain your weight), an excellent resource is a book called Dr. Shapiro's Picture Perfect Weight Loss. It's full of helpful information and lots of pictures that help you to make better eating decisions. For example, when you see the 12 tablespoons of lard that equal the amount of fat in an order of french fries, it really makes you think about what you're putting into your body!!

Here's a link to the book on the Chapters web site.

Good luck to everyone!!

I went tonight, and I stayed for the meeting and the program explanation. I like the idea of the core program but I don't think it's structured enough for me to start with.
I went last week, and I had gained 8 lbs since the last time I went (may) and really didn't follow the points all this week and I gained another 2lbs. I was so discouraged.
So that's 10lbs. total.
So tomorrow morning I'm writing everything in my journal....Keep in touch with me to get me in the grove!!! Please.
Congratulations on your loss again.
This encourages me to start and continue....

how are you doing on your weight loss program?

how was your week? I lost 2.2 lbs this week. Better than I thought. I have to start using the tracker - that is my downfall. DH cooked breakfast one morning & I counted the pts after I ate - big mistake, I had very little left for the rest of the day. Are you using the core program or the pts? good luck!

I kind of got ahead of myself and forgot to congratulate you on your successful loss this week! That's great!

Newfie, I went tonight and I gained 8 lbs since the last time I went. That was April 2004. I'm so glad I went because I didn't realize that I had gained....
Thanks everyone for your encouragement! This time I'm doing it!

1st weigh in - lost 3 lbs. I was kind of disappointed because the last time I started I lost 7 lbs the 1st week. But I was 20 lbs heavier than I am now and I was watching myself before I joined this time.
I had a good week all the same and am convinced that I will change for good this time!
