a different toy recall-unbelievable!

Just when one might of thought things couldn't get worse with the toy recalls, here's one about a toy that contains a chemical that converts into a DATE RAPE DRUG when ingested.

I've never heard about this toy before. Maybe it's not sold in Canada? Good to read anyway, for those whose kids receive toys from relatives abroad.

Here's a link:

Of course there are toys made in Canada and the US. My favorites are wooden toys from the Farmer's market, or stuffies knit by Grandma, and doll clothes sewn by Mom. This year we are getting back to traditions and having more of a homemade Christmas in our house.

My daughter saw the same commercial and wanted the toy as well. I don't think I would have purchased it for her, but the marketing certainly worked.

It is pretty scary when you can't trust the toys in your own house. We did have one of the toys that was recalled. It was given to my dd as a Birthday gift.

Are there any toys made in USA or Canada? Those brand name manufacturers design and do all of the quality control before the toys are shipped here. They are usually US companies. Be fair.

Not picking on you, you just said the magic words :) A lot of the toys that were recalled were Mattel and Fisher Price, sort of the same as crayola...

I've always been a bit overcautious about the use of chemicals in toys, but most things I have almost always turned away from have been those that change colour or glow in the dark. I know there are pajamas out there that have glow-in-the-dark designs on them-can't buy them. I seldom if ever buy toys with what i'd consider strange substances, like one item called Floam that my son wants me to buy-can't do it. I actually look for the words "non toxic" on toys/games, and I've always felt more comfortable sticking to name brands I know like Play-doh and Crayola for the stuff that makes the cut. But overall I always thought I was being a little too suspicious about these things. I am genuinely shocked at the number of recalls there have been.

OMG! I just saw the ad last night on tv for these Aqua Dots. My kids were saying they wanted one. Good post Dawn. Thanks. I saw them in Walmart (Canada). It is like a spraygun that they spray over beads to make a painting.
