Dining Chair Dilemma

Okay, so I've been going back and forth with this problem for the past few weeks now, but it's time to make a decision.  Here is what the current dining room looks like.  Mind you, it's far from done.  I'm just working on the major pieces first. (Don't mind the green painters tape on the floor, I was just visualizing where I wanted the buffet table)

The space is approximately 8'10" x 11' (if you don't include the hallway to the great room).  Where the back wall (with wallpaper is 11').  The stairs are on the left and the opening in the wall (on the right) is the kitchen. Oh yes, and the table is about 54' in diameter.

Anyway, I'm stuck on deciding between the following chairs:

We're looking at 6 chairs.  Not necessarily using them all around the table.  But because of the size of the it, I think we will need at least 4, or maybe even 5.  The other one(s) can be put beside the buffet table.  And btw, the guitars aren't staying there.

In my opinion, the black is just sexy.  And will make a bold statement in the room.  However, it may make the room look smaller.  So because of the small space, the clear may be better and make the room feel more open.  Is it possible to do a combination of the two?  Where one colour is at the table, and the other is beside the buffet table and only used when needed?

What are your opinions?  By the way, we're purchasing the chairs on Saturday, so I'll need to make up my mind before then.

Hello SarahToll,

I would go for the clear ones as they'll make the space seem less cramped.

So far the space looks great! Good luck!

I prefer the black chairs for purely aesthetic reasons, they go better with the wall and broder space you're dealing with there. The white chairs aren't a dealbreaker and will also fit in reasonably well, I just think the black chairs are better.

Of those two, I would go with black around the table and the clear beside the buffet.  If you can do 6 around the table, I would see if I can find armless and do 4 armless and two with arms.

I really like the idea of placing one transparent ghost chair on either side of the white buffet cabinet.  I like that the wallpaper would be seen right through them-very cool.  But with the table, I much prefer the black ones.  I think transparent chairs paired with a transparent table is maybe too much of a good thing.

I think it's hard for me to picture using both since usually when 2 chairs are different from the other four around a table, the 2 'different' ones are best placed at the opposite short ends of a rectangular table when needed.  I can't really picture 2 clear + 4 black with a round table.

This is hard to say, but I think the chairs are winning with me, and I would get a different table that is not round and not glass.

On another note, will you be able to have four chairs pushed in at all times with the 3-leg table design?  I'm hoping leg room will not be an issue-can't tell from the pictures.

Great room!

I am not liking either one of them.  I think the clear is too much like the glass table top.  And black could be too dark with the wallpaper.  I can see white parsons chairs!  The white will tie in with the buffet too.  As an option, what about 4 white chairs and then 2 clear ghost chairs but put one on each side of the buffet and only pull them up to the table when needed.

I think that you could do both.  Maybe 4 clear around the table and two black beside the buffet.  I love the black in there because of the wallpaper on the back wall.  However that wallpaper may not be there forever and the clear is more versatile(sp?)-it will go with anything when you want to change the room up.  Are they special order or stock.  Would they let you take home one or two chairs to try out in the room.
