Hello,
My brother in law built my husband and I a beautiful dining room table. I would like to use a walnut stain, but not sure what type of chair would match. Do the chairs and table have to match exactly? Can I use two different stains? I usually lean towards classic, straight line styles, but any suggestions are welcome!table

Wow — can't believe he made that table! Not sure if you saw this recent blog post or whether you've already made a decision, but there are some who prefer to have strong contrast between the table and chairs: http://houseandhome.com/blogs/house-home-daily/colourful-chairs
Gorgeous table, ananinac!
Personally, I would go for the same stain on both table and chairs. And you can always switch it up down the road if you do choose to mismatch them, but I would start out matching them.
Good luck!

You have a very talented BIL. If that is the room where you will be using it, the floor is light in colour and so the table should be darker. To make it look complete and like a proper set, the colour of the wood should be the same on table and chairs.
Traditional colours to stain would be the walnuts. I would avoid anything red if that is the room where it will stay. The floor colour and cherrywood would not go well methinks.
But you can have lots of fun with different colours with the seating materials for the chairs and let them be the main focus. Good luck.
