Hi,
I am renovating my kitchen and I have been hearing alot about the DIY stone effect countertops by Rustoleum and Beauti-Tone for the granite look. Has anyone used these and if so, what are the thoughts on this method. We are trying to keep costs down, but I don't want to have something that needs re-doing in a couple of years.
Thanks
Sandee :)

Hi Sandee,
For a quick fix in my kitchen I used Marine paint - the stuff used to paint the wooden parts on boats. It comes in matte or gloss and can be tinted just about any colour like regular paint. I bought it from Cloverdale Paints here in Vancouver but I think just about any large paint store will sell it. It is hard wearing and easy to apply. I used a brush and did a couple of coats. It has held up for over 2 years with only a few little chips that were easily painted over. Although not a high-end look it did change what was once a drab countertop for little money.
Heads up to go price out the products you mentioned because if they are the ones I am thinking of, they are a 3 step process and when you add up the cost....ends up pretty expensive stuff. For cheap and easy just look at paint. It will last a few years and is probably 30% of the price of the stone products.
Hi PBPatty,
Thanks, I will have a look at that link right away! :)
Hi Sandee,
I am considering this option too. A while ago, I did a search on the forum and I found that this thread had some great information. I hope you find it helpful, too.
