Do I or Don't I

Picked up black IKEA chandelier in garbage (yes, I am person that drives around on special garbage pick up). I am thinking of painting it green to put above table. Please note that we just finished just painting the panelling in this old pic and there is now a laminate floor installed but any other ideas please forward. Back to question, should I paint green??? or is it too .............................I am also thinking of repainted table in white and redoing top. It suits the space and until I can find something better that fits.........................

I think you may be right for as posted previously under laminate flooring - here is a pic of the other end of the room. Please note that the black lamp is now beside the chesterfield (barely seen in pic) and replaced with a tall white vase. The blue chair will go and the chesterfield is going to be recovered with a white/natural Ikea cover.

Also here are pics of the adjoining room. Sorry to be boring you but I am trying to complete (and will) as soon as possible. The black chair is directly across thru the opening, than a futon and a screen at the end of the room that is moved for privacy if we have guests on the futon.

Also another problem is that this small space is in Florida and we will not be there until winter. DH does not want too many projects travelling with us. LOL

I agree. If you are going to commit to that look you need to start somewhere and a freebie is always a good place to start. It is so easy to re-paint if you don't like it. Your inspirations pics look great so this might be what pushes you along.

With the green the look is a bit more "Miami" than beach, but its still fresh and bright and cheery. I think working with that colour calls out for some hits of modern style. If you're going to work with bold you have to commit to the feel. Anyone can do blue and white with seashells. It takes more to bring in that bold green. The light clearly cannot stay black if its going in your space. You've already spent the $5 on the can of spray paint, so I say go for it. You're dying to know how it will look. Spray it, hang it and live with it for 2 weeks. It will probably scare you at first. If you discover you love it, then all is well. If you discover you hate it, take it down and spend another $5 and spray it white, which will be perfectly fine. But listen to your gut feeling which was "This needs to be green!". I think it may be the inspiration you need to really commit to the Miami scheme!

As per pervious posts (many, many months ago), I was going for a beach look (light and airy) with the laminate floors, etc but found this material (cushions) and think I may be getting away from that theme. Should be looking for seashells !! I think because I like green rather than blue I am having difficulty.

Leaving it black will give the room a more current look. I agree with Mrs Fancy that a few other black items nearby would make it look like it belonged there.
Painting it white or cream would make the space so neutral it would become boring quickly.
Green would be a trendy way to go and would make the space less neutral.

Agreed. That is the great thing with paint...you can always change it.

Superb find, btw!!! In our neighbourhood, I'm always eyeing the trash because I've seen quite a number of perfectly good items! Our city has an actual curb date that encourages people to put out what they want to give away for free! I love this whole idea...as well as Freecycle.org.:)

White would be right and then look for shades to match or find a paint color and spray the shades. Would look very chic methinks.

Lass: That last picture shows your layout alot better. Makes sense to have the light centre over the table as this picture shows. I would still paint it a cream or white but like DBD says, try it, you have nothing to lose and if you don't like it, repaint it again.

Thank you, we also redid the ceiling, painted and moved the light. However, the table, 80% of the time is moved over more to the window and both leaves are usually down, as there only the two of us. The light is centred over our table 80% of the time. But unfortunately, when we have company and move the table out we are off kilter again. Problem with approx 700 sq ft. Unfortunately, I do not have the finished pictures here.

Here is a pic at Xmas and the table is now turned the other way with the laminate flooring and only two chairs. I am afraid of the black standng out too much but.........................

I think you should give it a try. The price was right so you have nothing to lose and if you don't like it you can always paint it another colour.

IMO I would leave it black or paint it white or cream and then find the right shade of green lamp shades to go on it. A bowl of green apples on the table would help tie it in. Then accent with pillows, vases and maybe a rug with a bit of that green in it too in the livingroom. If you leave the light black, make sure there is other black accents around as well to help tie in that colour such as a black ottoman/coffee table.

P.S. Make sure the light is centered over the table. It looks like it is swagged off to the side, not sure why.
