Hey all,
I am planning on catering my daughgters christening reception and wondered if you all had and do's and don'ts to share.
It's a BBQ reception with steak, chicken and salmon, veggies and potatos on the side with appetizers (3 per person) and a mixed green salad to start it all off, as well as coffee and desert at the end. Drinks are not included. They quoted me $20 per person which I think is OK, but the staff they recommended seems like overkill. He recomended 10 people, 4 for the kitchen and 6 for serving the food at the buffet, table service for the salads, wine and coffee and for clean up. That comes to $1152. Does that sound reasonable? I'm having 90 adults and 30 kids. Yes, that's a lot of people for a baptsim, but we're Greek and our family is humungous!
Thanks!

Hi Constance, That sounds reasonable to me. They shouldn't charge full price for kids though. When alcohol come into the picture then it gets expensive. This year we celebrated my daughter's confirmation & we took immediate family out for dinner & it was more than that. Get the caterers & enjoy your daughters Baptism. Good Luck with everything! ;)
Sorry for taking so long to post! Things have been crazy lately. Yes, the christening was great. It was a nice informal BBQ, and all the kids somehow managed to stay clean in their dressy clothes - wonder of all wonders!
No, we didn't use tents. We're in a brand new home with no grass and no A/C, so we were really glad that it was a cool day.
Good luck and enjoy!
How was your daughters christening? Were you totally exhausted at the end? BTW, did you rent tents? I am still wavering as to whether I should our shouldn't...
My daughter's baptism is tomorrow! We're having a much smaller reception than you and we're doing it ourselves. Should be fun!
All the best; it is such a wonderful moment in your daughter's life.
We're baptizing my baby niece in 3 wks. My daughter is godmother. Even though We're Greek too, my sister is married to a mange cake, and will not have a big fat baptism. So we're having it at my sister's, a barbecue like you. Anyway, what was the question? oh yea! no I don't think they quoted you an unreasonable price. The food selection sounds delectable ( I just love that word, makes me want to lick my fingers after saying it.) Plus you'll have the peace of mind of not having to prepare anything. You're right about the staff, it does sound a bit like overkill. Do some of them stuff the food in your mouths as well?
keeping busy I see...that's good;)
that sounds about right...it amazes me that in a city so big where one expect higher prices- things aremore reasonable:) I think the amount of staff sounds right & the price sounds good> We didn't have half of that service or food & it came out to the same for just a few less people.
