I missed your post re: Dan Brown... yes I have finished both the code and now Angels and Demons - I preferred the latter! The Alienist.. who is this by? I'm in serious withdrawl. I'm trying to read the Satanic Versus... hope this won't bring bad luck my way - has the fatwa been lifted off of Rushdie? Anyway - I find his writing too flowery and I miss DB!
The worst of it is that I now have to wait however long for the next Harry Potter too!
I'm depressed - I had finally gotten back into reading... I read too damn fast!

Is by Caleb Carr. Crime fiction in a real setting, albeit a historical one. I read it some years ago and found it interesting. I appreciated the author's attention to detail. I too am a very fast reader, and expect you will appreciate that Carr will keep you occupied for three nights at least - he is rather verbose. I have not tried Rushdie - I stick to reading something potentially edifying once every second year. The rest of the time I read trashy crime novels - Grisham and Block among others. Let me know if there is any way to conceive of Rushdie as a trashy crime novel and I may pick it up! (and yeah, his life has been spared, though I am sure his wallet misses the noteriety)
