I found this recipe in a local magazine and it is courtesy of D'reen's Catering. I tried it today (substituting for a few things on hand) and it sure was tasty! I thought you all might like to try it.
D'reen's Pomme d'amour Sandwich
8 thin slices of French bread
1/2 c. sourcream
1/2 c. gruyere or even try a smoked gouda for a twist
2 tbsp. of each chives and dill
salt and pepper (be sure it is freshly ground)
2 firm ripe tomatoes, sliced 1/4-1/3 thick (you could use a combo or red and yellow tomatoes)
2 eggs, beaten
1/4 c. milk
3 tbsp. butter
Mix together sourcream, cheese, chives, dill, salt and pepper (if you have leftovers use it as a tasty dip for veggies). Butter all bread slices on one side and then spread the same side with sourcream mixture. Top with tomato slices and then another slice of buttered bread (butter side in). Press edges firmly to seal. Beat eggs and milk and dip sandwich into mixture, saute in butter til golden brown on both sides.
(Note: when I made it, it was a bit drippy. I had put the sourcream mixture on either side of the tomato slice so maybe you are supposed to only do it on one side! Also for the tomato thickness, I assumed they meant 1/4-1/3 inches. Anyway, was still yummy!)
