I too feel Bruno was so full of himself and although he had lots of confidence, didn't come across well. Penny should have won ; I agree...she could have handled a show of her own. The other girl (can't remember her name) was definitely a candidate for television but, perhaps at something else as she too didn't have the knowledge. My feeling is that Bruno wowed them with the party he planned, but, that isn't all there is to decorating.
OMG...I never saw it...but I can't believe it.......yuck!
I think they were told or given a basket with items in it to determine the theme so they didn't have a choice as what they did.
I thought that maybe they were able to borrow the furniture (like the patio sets), but had to buy the accessories. Otherwise $1500 would definitely not be enough. We just bought new furniture last year so I know it's not cheap!
I think I might have gone with something other than the Tuscan look. Maybe south of France? Blue and yellow, that kind of thing?
But it's always easy to second guess!
So I'm gathering that I was right about Bruno winning? I haven't even seen it yet but I've taped it so I'll get to it later this week.
They always choose a candidate that still needs a lot of work (either on camera or in the area of design, and personally, I think he needs help in both). I had a feeling they'd try to "shock" everyone by choosing him. No shocker here, though my husband thought it'd be Penney (I won't tell him and watch his reaction when we finally see it!). :p
I don't think that reality shows can get more lame than this. Oh wait. They can. I can't believe some of the crap reality show concepts I'm seeing on TV these days.
I thought that as well Bruno had I think 3 different seating areas and where can you get all that stuff for $1500.00 I remember I think it was the first year when the designer that won borrowed so much stuff to put in her room because she was from Toronto and knew people they even gave her credit for being able to borrow things. I thought Penny's was more like what the average home owner would be able to put together with what they had. I liked the tent Marianna did but really who is going to go out and buy yards of fabric to cover a tent for 1 party. Bruno's was awesome but not what you would be able to do without outside help but I like the concept.
I was perplexed by the whole $1500 budget. They must of gone over that or had a deal with the stores to borrow these items. I know from experience that the tables and chairs used by Penny cost waaaaaaaayyyyyyy more than that at DOT Patio. I think that the tables alone are in the 900 range! Not to mention that they shopped at Sheridan Nurseries and UpCountry Garden which are 2 of the most expensive Garden shops in Toronto. Perhaps because the show was filmed in October, those were the only shops that had lawn and garden stuff so they had to shop there.
Well it just goes to show there is no figuring out why they choose who they choose by what they show. Bruno definitly had the most problems on camera of the three and Penny did seem to have the right background. go figure.
Just wondering if I am the only one bothered by a comment Suzanne D made about one of the garden set ups. I think it was in their final discussion she said she didn't like one of them because it 'wasn't high end enough" (I think it was Penny's garden). That really rubbed me the wrong way and spoke volumes about what we seem to have as one of our beefs about shows and mags. Given budgets, time constraints, and maybe the intent of the space, the design elements, creativity, etc. and so on didn't seem to have the weight of perceived expense. Sheesh... I shudder to think of having someone like that come to my house.
His garden was the best in comparison to the other two. I'm not sure that he is the best person for the job - again, I like my design hosts to actually know something about design which is why I liked Penny.
