HELP!!!
We moved into our house last August and have decided it's time to make over the outside. We will be closing in the carport with two white craftsman style garage doors. (I would like to keep them white)
As you can see the house is basically black on black! I have just started to collect samples and have them painted all around the exterior.
I definitely love the grays, charcoals, creams and whites, but I am having a heck on a time with the trim. The trim right now is black and I feel like it still needs to be something dark with a lighter body. I just can't see the post and beam trim in a white - I feel that is won't look good. I think because, you can't see the roof I am struggling.
The windows are white, with nice trim around them, but they are painted black and I want the windows to really POP as I only have a few in the front. I was thinking of painting the trim around the windows and garage doors white only.
I really need help as I just don't know what direction to go.
I have attached 3 photos of our exterior as well as some inspiration photos.
The dirt pile in front of the house, we are building a low cedar deck and will have landscaping going up the walkway - would like to plant two palms.
Some of the colors that I am playing around with are
Benjamin Moore:
Chelsea Gray
Kendall Charcoal
Iron Mountain
Sandy Hook Gray
Martha Stewart
Bedford gray
Flagstone - (I really like)
Thank you so much for your time and hope to get some feedback!Image

Backyard of my house
Thanks! This is what I am thinking. Martha Stewart flagstone
For the whole exterior and trim in white. I will keep
The natural wood structure in the front and add more stain. Love the idea
Of a yellow of turquoise door.
So when you say the "body MS Flagstone House", exactly what are you talking about? When you say body, I would say that is all the siding. If that is the case, then YES, paint it! Any lighter colour would work better even though I do not know what colour MS Flagstone is. As for the trim, definetly go white. If you paint an off white against the white windows, it will look dirty and weird. Try and match the colour of the white the windows are now and/or the new garage doors (there are so many whites out there). Then you can still add colour with your front door.
Hi there,
Sorry no the whole house! The natural wood in the front I won't paint, but yes all the trim and body. I really wanted to stay away from painting the new garage doors as I love the look of the white craftsman. Also I love the white windows, but hate the dark trim around them and really don't care for that look, so I was thinking of painting them white as well.
This is what I was thinking body MS Flagstone House, window and garage trim an off white. It's the current Black trim that I am stuck with - can't picture if white would work.
This is some inspiration
Are you thinking of painting the whole house or are you just talking about trim? If possible, I would paint the whole house a light colour, grey sounds great, or go with tans and greysh. Then, you could paint the trim around the windows a light grey that will transition to the white of the windows. Even paint the new garage doors the same colour you paint the window trim. I would leave the post and beam in the wood colour it is in though. Then paint the front door a bold colour to make it the focal point.
