It is 6 days until we get our new house. My mom and dad drove by the house last night and saw all of the furniture in the garage and a moving truck - wahoo!
It is one week until we have our NOTHING BUT PEOPLE PARTY - celebrating our move back to our home city! The movers don't come until July 16!
I digress.
How does one decide what the "style" of a house is. I want to change the outside fixtures and I am drawn to the antique type laterns but not sure they would go with this house. This hous is a pretty typical house but I still don't really know what style of houes it would be classified as.
Any ideas? Any suggestions for light fixtures?
thanks!

I don't think you could lose going with a Mission style like posted earlier. I think it needs something simple.
good point PearlG - fortunately, they are not real copper so won't need to worry about fading - they are just copper colored.
I didn't realise the house went over to the left until I looked closer at the trees there. They seem a bit overbearing and crowded in that space, rip 'em out and start over. You'll really see the lines of the house better then. My only stong suggestion is to embrace what it is and work with it rather than against it, I learnt that the hard way in mine.
I have that black and white lamp over my back door and can tell you it's way too small for your garage. it really is just a utility type size. I think you should look at lights that are at least 1.5' high if you want some real oomph. You might also look at sconce type lights that aim down to cast interesting lighting on the brick and you could put some big house numbers on one side going vertically.
When it comes to the bushes, how about getting them all professional trimmed and then seeing what you think. It might make all the difference and then you still have some well established greenery. If you still don't like it you can pull it out later when you have had time to consider a plan for the yard.
yeah that garage door sucks - but it is also 'is what it is' and I would much rather have that than having to get into a cold car in the middle of January. Fixing the issue will be at the bottom of my honey to do list.
we are thinking of removing all the trees/shrubs. They are over grown and yucky - but unsure about that,
what about these lights. The white comes in copper and black. I think I would choose copper b/c I really like copper. The last one is consider "antique" but I am not sure I agree with that term. And the middle one I think is going to be to small.
Oh boy one of those eh?
We'll have fun picking out a paint colour to de-emphasize your garage doors.
I don't think you should go with an antique style really, it might look out of character. Look at more cleaner lined styles in a larger size. You could have some fun with your porch area though. I remember on Sarahs House, the bungalow one, she had a pendant style in that overhang area as I recall. I remember thinking that in a high wind it would smash against the house but if it wasn't hanging down so low it wouldn't be a problem. She also used marine lights for exterior lighting and those might work for you also.
For the upper windows think about shutters or window boxes under them, they seem kind of skimpy compared to the heavier looking doors below them.
I'm glad to hear you likely won't have problems with the existing owners still being there. Hopefully a new start in a new house will be good for them, or maybe they are back to getting divorced, who knows?
Hearing that must have you so relieved. Finally you can make some plans and not worry as much. the Nothing but People Party sounds like a great idea. I don't know what the sytle of your house would be other than something like 3/4 century modern but I freely admit to really having no idea when it comes to the modern builds.
