You seem to always have really good advice for outdoor landscape and although DBD did try to help me....I was wondering if you could do a mock up or give some ideas.....see the picture below....we want to rip out the existing walkway, change the outside door and add a 2 car parking lot at the bottom of the hill with large stairs cut into the hill........do you have any ideas?....or anyone else for that matter...I posted originally under General help without much luck...................I know that this is a big job that may require a landscape designer but I wanted to have some ideas before I go there............

eys.....thank you....I love the landspcaping you are recommending...I think window boxes would look great.....and yes I want to rip out the little garden area near the wall and just have it all as a walkway....I actually want to put the steps in the middle of the hill and put a 2 car parking spot at the base...so I will wrap your stair suggestion facing west..........I have to custom order the new door.....so it takes 6-8 weeks....my hubby will do all the interlocking and landscaping....we are going to rent a jackhammer and break up the existing concrete....that will be quite the back breaking job....I will keep you posted on the outcome... :) thank you again....I really needed the visual....

Great mock-ups eys! I know you've mentioned it before, but what software do you use for your mock-ups? I love how realistic the plants turn out!
k crappy mock up here but it gives you the idea with the stairs and the patio width I would get rid of that large scrub and replace with the small ornamental tree...also the patio bricks would go right upto the house and get rid of that small strip of garden there.
k i did a mock up for you to show you what I would do...your house is beautiful!! you said you will be changing the door so i didnt bother with it...i would widen the entrance to make it more like a patio..plant a small ornamental tree in the corner close to the house...i would also make the steps as wide as the patio in semi circles going down..this would give you lots of room for planters on each step to add even more interest...i would also have a vine growing up the far end of the house to tie in all the green on the other side with the trees....have fun! :) eys
