A few improvments I think

Buela's picture

Hi everyone! I have changed the furniture placement in my living room to make it a little more "cozy" and am still in search of a new coffee table. Finally found some cushions, what do you think?

Hubby finally removed that terrible wall sized mirror from the wall (with a sledge hammer no less) and we have added some leaf pics and a small mirror. The table is still the same, but the eventual goal is to find a new dinning set.

I didn't realyze that you painted your table, I've always admired it. Do you remember which products you used? The color?

We are going to see about the table tonight, but from the sounds of it it may be too large. The picture I posted is without the leaves. It needs to be the same size or smaller than the one we have now to fit our small dinning room. The price is right though -- $500 for the set. I hope it is solid wood.... If I can sell my current set for almost the same amount then the new set is free!

is to get a long bench, so you could have a chair at the head of the table on each side and two chairs on one side and the bench on the other

I think your current dining set looks in great shape, and doesn't look dated. I agree with the comments that you could paint out the greent in Turret Stair or Mink and reupholster the seats, it would tie in perfectly with what you've got.

What seems missing to me are some table lamps in your living room. If your unit is a bit on the dark side, it seems like these would be the next purchase to me. You could also put a standing/floor lamp in the corner beside or behind the chair against the railing.

Looking bood, Buela :)

Just a few suggestions..... as has already been mentioend, lower the leaf pics (which are beautiful!!) And a larger mirror would work better on that wall.

Is it just the angle of the picture, or is the chandelier not centred over the table?? If it's not centred, can you swag it over so that it's centred over your table?? And I think it could hang a bit lower.

The dining set you want to buy looks great!! For sure you could add a couple of non-matching chairs. It looks like the 4 chairs that come with the set are all side chairs, so you could get two parsons chairs and use them as the "head of the table" chairs (one at each end). If that set doesn't work out, take a shot at painting your set and reupholstering the chairs.

Do you have a larger centrepiece for the table??

Oh, and how about painting the coffee table in your living room a dark chocolate brown?? It's a nice size and shape, maybe a different colour will spruce it up and you won't need to buy a new one.

The cushions look OK. How about getting a couple more that are the same colour as the rusty orange in the artwork above the sofa?? Maybe in a nice shimmery fabric.

You've done a great job so far :)

Coming together nicely.

Suggestions: definitely lower the leaf pictures. No need for a shelf,
Mirror should be much bigger on this wall. It is looking lost because of it's size. Great idea but demensions not quite right. or...hang a long mirror horizontally where the leaf pictures are and move the leaf pics where the present mirror is. They have very good price long mirrors at walmart that would work really well there.
Hang new light fixture 60" from floor.
You could paint your entire set and get the same look as the new one you are thinking of buying.or,,,,,paint the table and add parson chairs.

What about putting a shelf underneath the leaf pictures in dark wood to coordinate with the frames. You could then put some candles etc on it. I have seen it done with a long rectangular box attached to the wall that really makes 2 shelves (hope that makes sense). It in effect makes a very narrow sideboard.

If I were you I would paint your present chairs black/dark brown and use them as extra chairs for guests with the new set.

I want to change my dinning set rather than paint it because it is the whole style that I want to change. My curent set is very country, (wood & white, ladder back chair etc) and I am going for a more contemporary/modern look. This is the table I am hoping to buy (used) if hubby and I can get to see it before it is sold.

My dilemma with this set is that it only has 4 chairs (I currently have 6) and would like 6 or more for larger groups/family dinners. What do you guys think? Could I add some parson chairs, leather or something for when we have company?

What do you want to change about your dining set the color???Just paint it if that is the case some on here just did a great job on changing their set. :) That way you can spend your money on other things

The wall color is Behr "oatcake". We have also recently painted the entrace a darker version of that color called "brown teepee". The leaves are from Colonial furniture, but I have seen nearly exactly the same ones at Zellers recently only I think they are a little smaller and some cheeper

The light is quite poor in my house as it is a townhouse with only one tiny window in the front which is the side of the house the sun shines on the most. That's my big beef with towns is how dark they are. I would rather have the windows and no garage but hubby does not agree!

do your get enough light in there to put a big floor plant as well?

I love your leaf pictures. Where did you get them? I have the same taste in colour as you. I love the colours in the picture above your sofa and I am looking for a similar colour as your walls for my family room and kitchen in my new house. What colour is it?

Now that I look at the pics I see what you mean. It's funny though that I never noticed it but I think it may be because that wall is slightly taller than the one the mirror is on due to the bulkhead above the mirror.

Also, the light fixture is new since I last posted pics, and I am looking for something co-ordinating for the stairwell in the living room and also the above the kitchen table as all can be seen together.

looks good...but i agree with bigmama the leaf pics need to be lowered a touch

Looking great although I think I would put your leaf pictures lower though :)
